By the looks of the KKEE website, they will continue as "Sports Radio, ESPN 1230" primary affiliate.

http://www.kkee1230.com/

This from "All Access" yesterday with the KKEE listing:
_________________________________________________________________

The new affiliates include Talk KJLL-A (TUCSON'S JOLT)/TUCSON (taking RANDI RHODES on tape delay 8-10p), Brokered Talk WTAN-A (TAN TALK RADIO)/CLEARWATER-TAMPA and WDCF-A/DADE CITY, FL, new AM KXLJ-A/JUNEAU, Sports KKEE-A/ASTORIA, OR, Talk WWWT-A-F-WWWB-A (3WT)/WASHINGTON (RHODES 4-7p), WBDB/OGDENSBURG-WATERTOWN, NY, and Talk simulcast WPLY-A/MT. The additions bring the network's affiliate list to 67 stations taking all or part of the network's schedule, plus XM SATELLITE RADIO and SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO.

On the same day "All Access" reported the above, they also reported this:

Air America Out, Norteno In At KOKE/Austin

Talk KOKE-A/AUSTIN has dropped AIR AMERICA RADIO programming and switched to Regional Mexican "PURO NORTENO" under an LMA with proposed new owner JOSE J. GARCIA. I don't recall what KAST ran for the three hours that Limbaugh was out. They have a listeners forum at their website where you can read all the comments.
It seems KAST got more complaints about Limbaugh being removed than they did about Limbaugh being on there, many from non-fans who thought removing him wasn't fair play, even though they never listened to him.

"even though they never listened to him"

Apparently neither did the management at KAST or they would not have removed him over an obvious attempt by dingy Harry at political grandstanding without any of the facts.

The new KKEE website is up and running. Yesterday, btw, Randi Rhodes opened her show by welcoming KKEE and referring to Astoria as "a slice of heaven in the middle of nowhere..." The site is: www.kkee.com

Central Texas has pretty high ground conductivity, so even high-dial AMs with 1-5kW of power have pretty good coverage. Perhaps, one thing that hampers KTXZ is the deep null that it throws to the west during the day.

KTXZ Day signal (2.5kW)

KTXZ Night signal (2.5kW)
http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KTXZ&service=AM&status=L&hours=N

KOKE Day signal (5.0kW)

KOKE Night signal (0.7kW)

Here's what 10kW at the high end of the dial will do in Austin:

Here's what 5kW at the low end of the dial will do in Austin (yeah, baby!!)

This from All Access:

Air America Rumors Denied

Rumors remain just that, as ALL ACCESS spoke with AIR AMERICA COO SCOTT ELBERG regarding buzz that the progressive Talk network would fold soon, with some of the programming being picked up by the WOR RADIO NETWORK.

"No truth to that at all," said ELBERG.

I REALLYDONT THINK "PROGRESSIVE TALK" CAN PRESENTLY BE CONSIDERED A BIG SUCCESS.IF IT WAS , WOULD NOT THERE BE AT LEAST 3 STATIONS IN EACH CITY DOING IT, LIKE WHAT HAPPENED WITH CONSERVATIVE TALK, AN LIKE WHAT HAPPENED WITH TOP 40 BACK IN THE DAY?I.E. THOSE WEREMAJOR TRENDS.
OPINIONS????

Took a long time and dollars to get three conservative talkers in each city.

Will take a long time and dollars to get progressive talkers doing the same thing.

It's established in some markets and doing well. That will help reset market expectations, which is also a factor. ie: lots of people think "AM Radio Politics" is all about Limbaugh, et al.

While the nation remains roughly divided politically, there exists a market for talkers talking something other than conservative.

There are dollars being invested, and there are people that believe "there is a market"; therefore, "there is a way."

What you are currently seeing is the early growth, similar to that seen with conservative talk long ago. Resetting and managing expectations takes time and dollars --it takes more of them these days, and that's largely due to saturation.

That saturation from the conservative talk crowd does change the growth dynamic from what it was before. When they [conservative talkers] jumped in, there was a vacuum, and AM was in a state of transition to the state it's in today. This was more easily exploited than the state of things now is.

Another difference is the state of media ownership. Today it's highly consolidated, which makes getting good signals more difficult than would otherwise be the case given a broader ownership pool.

If a particular ownership has the expectation that progressive / liberal (and they are different!) talkers are a waste of time, that expectation impacts a lot of signals in a lot of markets. This has obvious implications where growing a new talk niche is concerned. This is often ignored when discussing this topic. This is also a problem for a lot of formats.

Finally, I think the politics bring with them some differences too. The conservative crowd tends to form a heirachy more than progressives do. This difference tends to impact the radio efforts in that there is a more diverse set of voices to match to markets. There is also some self competition too. (Personally, I think that aspect can be profitable --drama always is.)

As time continues to pass, growth in the aggregate is being seen. As long as that remains the case, we are just somewhere on the curve, moving along nicely.

That's the overall metric to watch, not the occasional higher profile success or failure.

obviolsy:
progressives should be at left side of diol, like below 700approx
Conservatives should be at right side of dial, like above 1100approx,
other formats go to the middle of band like from 700 to 1100 approx.
but most proples radios now days only have a digital freq display no knob or dial!

Nicely done --and top marks for that particular coach.
