Does anybody know what will happen with La Campeona under their new ownership?

Sorry, my ouija board doesn't seem to be working today. Seriously, my guess is that they will stay in Spanish, stand alone AM's in a market with multiple stations are obviously at a distict disadvantage, especially now with a new Spanish FM in the area. But what will truly happen is anybody's guess.

I miss KWIP. It was kind of 'KLYC south.' Herb

KWIP was better than KLYC is now, but it was a totally different era. Music on AM could still fly 25 years ago, plus the radio market wasn't quite as saturated as it is now.(understatement) KCYX in its heyday was better than KWIP. On the dial KCYX and KEX were only 70kHz apart, and their sound was quite similar--sometimes it was hard to tell the difference! I do not mean to turn this into another ridiculous anti-KLYC thread, because I see no reason to bash a group of individuals that are trying their best to keep a small station locally programmed and on the air. Most other stations of this type are satellite fed from out of town with either some sort of music or more usually a talk format. It is just not economically viable for a small stand alone AM at the edge of a major market to do what KCYX or KWIP(or KSLM) used to do. I used to listen to and enjoy all of those stations when I was younger.

There's no way that I could teach this stuff...I'm merely a rank amateur as far as this radio stuff goes... Now, a radio professional(there are many on this board--I'm definitely NOT one of them), they can teach you stuff.

For the first time in "La Pantera's" history KWBY does not appera at all in Portland's Arbitron Books. I can't beleive "La Campeona" came tied with Bustos' "La Grande". Where is Churchill's Portland KXPD-AM "La X"? What is "La Campeona" doing that the others aren't?

"For the first time in "La Pantera's" history KWBY does not appear at all in Portland's Arbitron Books." That's true but KWBY's earlier "Radio Fiesta" dropped off 13 12+ rating periods back to the format switch in 1994.

> "For the first time in "La Pantera's" history > KWBY does not appear at all in Portland's > Arbitron Books." It appears that most of the audience got pulled away by KRYP-FM. However, if you add the ratings for all of the regional Mexican formatted stations (KRYP, KGDD, KXPD, KWBY, and KWIP), it appears that the listenership share for the format was not affected much by its introduction on a FM outlet.

Sampling is an issue in the really big markets, you can bet the Hispanic sampling in Portland is pretty lame.
