This is the kind of CRAP we can expect if it is elected as president. This is typical Democrat type thinking. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,303376,00.html Now don't get me wrong, Woodstock was the greatest music festival there has ever been or will ever be and a museum honoring it would be great. However IT IS NOT SOMETHING TO BE DONE WITH TAX DOLLARS! It should be funded with private money. Tax dollars should NOT go to that kind of stuff. Just like the NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) there is a bunch of money that could and should be put to a better use. I don't know the exact dollar amount, but from doing a quick Google search I think the 2006 or 2007 amount was $176 million. (Of yours and my TAX dollars) Let’s use that money to start better healthcare for children or something else worthwhile. There should be no such thing as "earmarking" funds for pet projects to people who have donated to your campaign funding. Edit add: As far as hippies go, I'll always be a hippie at heart, never ever a yuppie! Old Hippies never die. They just trim their beards!

$176 million funds about 8 hours of Iraq. I'd rather have my wasted tax dollars go the the NEA.

Skybill, I disagree. Something should go to Americans that appreciate art and culture as well as those who are impressed with military hardware and firepower.

I'm not saying it should go to the military. What I am saying is that this (the NEA and lots of other things) are not something that should be funded by tax dollars.

But there ARE Americans who think the NEA should be funded. Why deny them this modest opportunity to make these Americans feel like THEIR tax dollars are contributing to a better society?

Then let them make donations to it. Art is the kind of thing that should be privatley funded not with tax dollars. Sports are one of the other things that the government has no business funding. There are lots of ways we can cut government waste. Vitalogy, I'll save you the post. I know. Get out of Iraq.

Could it be possible that the funding of things like sports and arts actually has a positve economic impact, therefore it's an intelligent place to spend tax dollars?

http://www.racc.org/news/pressreleases/2007/AEP3PressRelease_6_6_07.php Nonprofit arts and culture organizations in the Portland metro area do more than enrich our lives and imaginations – they also help fuel the region’s economic engine. According to a new national study, 111 arts and culture organizations in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington Counties collectively generated more than $318 million in local economic activity and supported more than 10,300 local, full-time equivalent jobs in fiscal year 2006. Those organizations pumped over $166 million directly into the local economy in the form of employee wages, purchase of supplies and services, and acquisition of assets. Their audiences generated another $151 million of commerce with restaurant, hotel, parking and other expenditures related to attending arts or cultural events (not counting ticket purchases).
