"At a Baghdad jail for prisoners who have attacked U.S. forces, everyone — to a man — says it was the U.S. occupation of Iraq that drove them to violence. And they are not alone. Across the Middle East and South Asia, the same story can be heard in Internet cafes, mosques, safe houses and prisons."

So much for the claim that people against the war are emboldening Al-Qaida! If you support the war, YOU'RE the one emboldening our enemy.

So what drove them to kill 3000 innocent Americans on 9/11? We weren't anywhere near Iraq when they attacked us. More leftist BS.

"So what drove them to kill 3000 innocent Americans on 9/11? We weren't anywhere near Iraq when they attacked us. More leftist BS."

And you deliver the standard knee-jerk rightie apologist remarks.

Here's how it works: They hated us on 9/11. According to the article, they hate us even MORE now. They have grown STRONGER due to our presence in Iraq. We have provided a theater of war for them to practice their skills of attack and death, far more effectively than at a secret terrorist camp. And they do all this amidst a flurry of sectarian violence where you can hardly tell a Sunni from a Shiite from Al Quada. And we hand-delivered American lives to their front door, where they can pick them off at will with IED's. And if, as the right says, they might someday come to America, they now have a much better understanding of American culture, technology, and military tactics.

Americans have always been an object of burning hate for Al Quada - by invading Iraq we have thrown gasoline on that fire.

"Al Qaeda" is not some tight-nit organization like SPECTRE in the old James Bonds films. They are a loose coalition of groups and people who oppose the regimes in Saudi Arabia and who of course hate America and the west. Some of the more recent attacks or thwarted attacks against the west have been done by "al Qaeda-inspired" groups. That is, groups who acted independently from any leadership in this group just did it to feel like part of the team. That should make people very worried. The fact that independent groups could be attacking us without communicating with each other makes it much harder to stop them before they attack.

The "al Qaeda in Iraq" bunch are disaffected jihadists mostly from Saudi Arabia crossing the boarder into Iraq to fight Americans and the pro-American government. The American presence there inspires them to violence against us and the Iraqis we support. Don't believe this nonsense put out by Bush and Co. that if these jihadists weren't going to Iraq they'd be hijacking planes in New York - what a bunch of bullshit. If America wasn't such a conspicuous, offense presence to them in Iraq, they'd just find someone or something else to hate.
