KLTH - KHITS - Does that also, that's why i like Kool1059, without jocks.
If they add jocks and they do it, i will just listen to cd's.

"Jammin' 95.5 is in 11th place. Z100 is ahead of them [citation/data needed]. How long will Paul Allen stick with Jammin' 95.5?"

------------------------------------

The thing about KXJM/KLTH/KOOL etc. chopping off the beginnings of songs is one reason I rarely listen to commercial radio any more. That's partially why I have a CD player.

It seems very disingenuous to me that this thread was built up to promote an automated internet-only radio station. There have been numerous instances over the last few years where a certain person has been using this message board as a place to post cleverly disguised advertisements for this streaming radio station.

I was only translating the original post into a human-readable form and providing my comments as to my growing dissatisfaction towards automated, mass-produced commercial radio, favouring my CDs.............

No kidding . . . I recently heard the short version of Grand Funk Railroad's "Closer to Home" for perhaps the first time in 36 years.

K-Hits, playing the shorter version of your favorite songs!

I think the keyword here is "hits". They play the "hit version" because that's what most of their target demo wants to hear. If you don't really care for a song, would you rather tolerate it for 3 minutes or 7? There are exceptions to this of course: No one wants to hear the "single" version of American Pie because it's incomplete but the beginning of American Woman is unnecessary!

Makes sense. Obviously they didn't get their music library from the old 97 KPAM-FM (aka K-97) as they only had the longer versions.

KPAM needed a gimmick to separate them from KGW and KISN and took advantage of their FM position to play longer versions where applicable.

The operative word there is "long(er)". KPAM often did not play the full version. I remember it well. For example, they faded Foghat's "Slow Ride" right at the point where it begins to pick up speed. Sure, it was longer than the single, but about 2:30 shorter than the full LP version. And even as a kid of 14, I could tell the horrible hatchet job they had done to Manfred Mann's "Blinded By The Light." They hacked the guts out of the guitar solo - and not even on beat!

That's one of the things that drove me into this crazy business of radio production. I wanted to make only "good" edits of audio.

No, I wasn't referring to you. I was talking about somebody else who said that KOOL 105.9 is good because there are no DJs and then made another post with a link to an Internet radio station. As of today, the second posting (the one with the link) has been removed from this thread, either by the poster or by the moderator. No hard feelings..... :-)

Sounds about right.

I remember between KXL's Easy Listening/Smooth Jazz era (80s-early 90s) and the Jammin' era (present) they had some sort of 80's hits format for a little while. I believe that one might have influenced the creation of "Mix 1-oh-7-5" which supplanted "KBBT The Beat".....

I don't have exact dates of all the KXL-FM/KXJM changes, but Craig does!
I.G.M.'s KGMG / KXL-FM To KXJM

It says the station flipped to Jammin' on "March 26, 1999 at 5:20 PM."

I later learned this was actually an early sign-on date of an already planned format change to combat a Z100 theme weekend.

107.5 was still Modern AC and didn't change to 80s until June 2, 2000. I think the decision to change 107.5's format wasn't made until well after the KXL-FM formats were a distant piece of ancient history. Even I remember KXL-FM had an AAA format for a while; the formats that included the 80s had been gone for quite some time before the Jammin' switch.

The Jammin' switch took place in March of '99.

I was just finishing up 8th grade at the time, and I remember it being the only thing my fellow students were talking about.

I don't think so..I'm still thinking more like late 96. I believe E Bro was flying back and forth from his PD gig at KBMB Sacramento and was involved in the initial launch of this station. It would be cool if someone had a definitive answer regarding the launch of this station-chr rhythmic format. I'm sticking with late 96 early 97.

Some songs just shouldn't be edited!!!!!
Note to Dan persigal at Charlie FM. That edited version of "November Rain" by GNR is AWFUL!!! It sounds really BAD!!!! Kufo and KGON both play the full length version, and then you have Charlie that plays the half assed version which sounds poorly edited! Just play the full length version Charlie!!!

The other song I can't take is K-hits version of "sweet Emotion". They chopped of the whole beginning and it makes me cringe every time I hear it.

The Playhouse has gone downhill fast since Ebro left and they brought on Egypt, Ivan, and DuRyan. PK needs to do a better job of finding talent. He's good, to good to work with them. In fact, I think the show would be better with just PK, Sonnie, Scooter, and Tony... and it would save the station some cash.

Thank you KGON for not editing your music!! I never have to worry about hearing some Crappy edited version of a song on KGON because THEY ARE SMART ENOUGH to know that it will piss people off to hear their favorite songs edited!
You don't mess with classic Rock, That is just the golden rule that apparently some Pd's havent figured out yet!!!!!!!!!!!

Everytime I hear November Rain on Charlie, I quickly change the station, not because I hate the song, it is because I hate the crappy edited version that Charlie plays!!! And if any station is editing off the ending of "layla" than that PD deserves to be fired and CASTRATED!!!!!!!!

Charlie isn't a Classic Rock station so it should be OK to air edited versions of songs in the name of variety because most of their listeners aren't specifically Classic Rock fans. KGON, on the other hand, needs to be "true to the music". :-)

As a fan of classic rock I cannot listen to the train wreck channel. I get going with two or three rock tune's then the damn train de-rails or hit's a brick wall without warning. It's just a tad to spastic for me to be a regular listener. I'd rather listen to K-Hits than Charlie. Just my personal opinion of course.

PS. And yes edited classic rock tunes make me angry so don't mess with them and don't chop the lead-ins or endings.

Personally, the one "Bad Edit" that drove me nuts was Mix 107.5's edit of Tears For Fears "Shout" which is a 6:33 play. The PD then was Michelle. You could actually hear the jump in the song from edit to edit. Probably done locally since it was horrible.

However, Mark Hamilton plays it in it's entirety. Hey, "It's Different There". Thats what I like!

How hard would it be for Dan persigal to replace "november rain" with the full length version??? Its not like he's tied down with that HUGE airstaff that he has. The version they are playing sounds like someone with little experience edited that song on Cool Edit pro. Id call up Charlie and ask to speak to Dan personally. Believe it or not, a lot of PD's actually CARE what there listeners think, with the exception being CHEAP CHANNEL. I also can't take edited versions of songs that were edited at the station.

How different is that than playing Led Zeppelin Tunes XPERT?? Because Charlie does play the longer Zeppelin tunes.

And yes, Dan sounds like an awesome PD! I just wish he would fix the tacky edits that are on the station. THey make the station unlistenable! The "November Rain" edit they have is TERRIBLE! I can hear the choppy edit on the song. Plus a woman at my work goes " Wait a minute, they just took out the whole guitar solo." JACk Fm in L.A plays the full length version of Novmeber Rain
Charlie is the only station that is playing the Crappy half assed edit of "november rain". Even Rock hits 107.5 played the full length version. This just doesn't make sense! It sounds REALLY TACKY!! I REALLY enjoy Charlie, I think it is by far the best station in portland, BUT if I continue to hear songs that are butchered than Charlie is off my radio. I have too many other choices to choose from, its not worth my time to hear butcherd versions of my favorite songs!!
