It seems very disingenuous to me that this thread was built up to promote an automated internet-only radio station. There have been numerous instances over the last few years where a certain person has been using this message board as a place to post cleverly disguised advertisements for this streaming radio station. |

I think the keyword here is "hits". They play the "hit version" because that's what most of their target demo wants to hear. If you don't really care for a song, would you rather tolerate it for 3 minutes or 7? There are exceptions to this of course: No one wants to hear the "single" version of American Pie because it's incomplete but the beginning of American Woman is unnecessary! |

Makes sense. Obviously they didn't get their music library from the old 97 KPAM-FM (aka K-97) as they only had the longer versions. |

KPAM needed a gimmick to separate them from KGW and KISN and took advantage of their FM position to play longer versions where applicable. |

The operative word there is "long(er)". KPAM often did not play the full version. I remember it well. For example, they faded Foghat's "Slow Ride" right at the point where it begins to pick up speed. Sure, it was longer than the single, but about 2:30 shorter than the full LP version. And even as a kid of 14, I could tell the horrible hatchet job they had done to Manfred Mann's "Blinded By The Light." They hacked the guts out of the guitar solo - and not even on beat! |

I don't think so..I'm still thinking more like late 96. I believe E Bro was flying back and forth from his PD gig at KBMB Sacramento and was involved in the initial launch of this station. It would be cool if someone had a definitive answer regarding the launch of this station-chr rhythmic format. I'm sticking with late 96 early 97. |

The Playhouse has gone downhill fast since Ebro left and they brought on Egypt, Ivan, and DuRyan. PK needs to do a better job of finding talent. He's good, to good to work with them. In fact, I think the show would be better with just PK, Sonnie, Scooter, and Tony... and it would save the station some cash. |

Skep: I don't remember any Portland station ever playing the short version of "Layla", even when it was a current. That's the reason when I bought the 45, I was mad! I didn't see it coming. |

Beano- that is why I have stoped listening to Charlie and started listening to KGON. I refuse to listen to those awful radio edits that Charlie plays. The thing I love about KGON is that they never edit there music, and it is greatly appreciated! Dan P needs to fix some of these tacky radio edits because it does make the station sound bad! |

Charlie isn't a Classic Rock station so it should be OK to air edited versions of songs in the name of variety because most of their listeners aren't specifically Classic Rock fans. KGON, on the other hand, needs to be "true to the music". |

BS SMOOCHIE!! I disagree! Charlie also shares A LOT of Kgon listeners because they play a lot of classic rock! Editing Classic songs that you have head a million times is absolutely RIDICULOUS!!!! TRUST ME, if you have a Guns N roes fan listening to Charlie and they hear the crappy version of "november rain" I guarantee you it will piss them off. |

As a fan of classic rock I cannot listen to the train wreck channel. I get going with two or three rock tune's then the damn train de-rails or hit's a brick wall without warning. It's just a tad to spastic for me to be a regular listener. I'd rather listen to K-Hits than Charlie. Just my personal opinion of course. |

Personally, the one "Bad Edit" that drove me nuts was Mix 107.5's edit of Tears For Fears "Shout" which is a 6:33 play. The PD then was Michelle. You could actually hear the jump in the song from edit to edit. Probably done locally since it was horrible. |

How hard would it be for Dan persigal to replace "november rain" with the full length version??? Its not like he's tied down with that HUGE airstaff that he has. The version they are playing sounds like someone with little experience edited that song on Cool Edit pro. Id call up Charlie and ask to speak to Dan personally. Believe it or not, a lot of PD's actually CARE what there listeners think, with the exception being CHEAP CHANNEL. I also can't take edited versions of songs that were edited at the station. |

Dan is great PD, and he knows that it wouldn't be wise to play the album version (8:45) of "November Rain" on a pop-based station like Charlie FM. |

I'm not sure what's worse...chopped up butchered songs or songs that are pitched way too fast...Personally, I'm going with the songs pitched up way too fast...there's nothing worse than hearing "Nights in white satin" short edit and then pitched too fast...horrible! |

I haven't yet heard "November Rain" on Charlie, but I'll take your word for it, that it's a bad edit. Maybe, Dan needs a copy of the real single edit? Unlike Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin didn't receive much pop radio airplay. |
