Snip - " While initial results aren't expected until next year — and won't provide a final answer — skeptics are already attacking the methods and disputing the presumed results.

A psychology professor and provost at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. An evangelical Christian, Jones last month announced results of a study he co-authored that says it's possible for gays to "convert" — changing their sexual orientation without harm.

His study involved 98 gays "seeking help" from Exodus International, a Christian group that believes homosexuals can become straight through prayer and counseling. Exodus International funded Jones' study.

The group's president, Alan Chambers, said he is a former homosexual who went straight and believes homosexuality is morally wrong."

There you have it. Science!

I was talking to long time music producer friend recently and I asked him who he's working with these days. He mentioned a woman whose music I was familiar with and when he didn't mention her husband I asked and he said they had divorced because he had fallen in love with another man.

This once married couple had put out a straight ahead contemporary Christian pop album a few years ago, worked with youth at their church, and had many youth events at their house. My wife and I interviewed them for a local Christian music show we used to produce. The couple have two children that I'm assuming live with the mom.

It saddens that this issue continues to divide. We have more important issues to deal with.

An evangelical Christian "using science" determines that gay people CHOOSE to be gay and can be converted to being straight, "without harm."

Shocking. Boy, I never saw THAT coming!

I wonder if part of this scientific experiment involved TALKING to gay people? They'll tell a different tale.

Wow Chris, you are describing exactly the situation between two good friends of mine; both strongly involved in music and their church, with two children. She too left him because of his gay lifestyle, which they had kept hidden throughout their children's upbringing. I don't think we are talking about the same people, but it goes to show that these stories are unusually common.

Edselehr-

I have mentioned this book before. It's a pretty quick read. "Stranger at the Gate-Being Gay and Christian in America" by Mel White.

It may not change anyone's mind but it will inform your brain of what many gays and lesbians go through. It's powerful.

It's definitely possible to "behave straight" if you are gay. It's also a prescription, for most gay people, for being miserable. You can choose to be miserable, there's no doubt about that. Fundamentalists don't care; it's all about their beliefs. Better to be a miserable straight-living gay person and following the moral code than a happy gay person behaving immorally.

Why don't all the Fundamentalists in America just move to Iran? I hear there are no gay people there...

Andrew-You just pretty much summerized Mel White's book (The Iran comment excluded).

When you read what Mel went through to try and stop from being gay it really breaks your heart.

I shared this book with a gal who used to cut my hair and is a staunch Catholic. The book brought her to tears. It didn't change her stance about gays and lesbians but it did educate her on one man's plight. She gained a new respect which is really all I wanted to happen.

Well I would have been interested in someone's take had they actually looked at the article. I guess headlines and snippet are all we need, eh?
