I believe Tawn co-hosted Mornings on KUFO with Bill Prescott. This from All Access:

-----------------Rock Radio Legend Tawn Mastery Passes-----------------

One of Rock radio's most renown air talents, TAWN MASTERY, passed away YESTERDAY evening (10/2). MASTERY had been battling Hepatitis C liver disease for some time, and was on a liverdoner waiting list, but to no avail.

TAWN MASTREY became a legendary voice in the Heavy Metal/Hard Rock genre, in both radio and TV. She hosted shows on KSJO/SAN JOSE; KQLZ (Pirate Radio)/LOS ANGELES, KXXR (93X)/MINNEAPOLIS; KNAC/LONG BEACH, KLSX/LOS ANGELES, CA; KMEL/SAN FRANCISCO, KUFO/PORTLAND, as well as stints on the Internet @ HARDRADIO.COM; and with SIRIUS Satellite Radio. Most recently, she could be heard on SIRIUS as host of HAIR NATION.

TAWN also wrote, produced and syndicated her own radio specials, such as ROCKZONE and SAMMY HAGAR'S CABO WABO HAPPY HOUR.

In TV, TAWN also hosted specials and stringer reports for MTV when it first launched, ON-TV's "Night Flight" and local Los Angeles TV programs, as well as the featured host for the "Metal Head Video Magazine" series.

In film, TAWN appeared as herself in "THE BLUES BROTHERS," "HEAVY METAL THUNDER AND MUD" and "THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION, PT. II: THE METAL YEARS."

Behind the scenes, TAWN produced several music videos including SCORPIONS'"No One Like You," GREG KIHN's "Happy Man" and "Jeopardy," as well as ROMEO VOID'S "Never Say Never."

For updates on celebrations of TAWN's life and on how you can become an organ donor, please check: http://tawnmastreybenefit.com/

That is sad news. I remember her from Night Flight and M-TV in the embryonic days of cable. We were really lucky to have her in town during her career. Rock music has lost an advocate and radio has lost a great voice.

Being an organ donor is easy and can save a life.

I'm sorry to hear this. When we worked together at KUFO we had her and her boyfriend over for Thanksgiving.

OMG Kent, I can't believe the news...Tawn was such a neat lady, knew all the rock legends (and what a voice) I'll NEVER forget the time we had her walk down Front street with no top on, for charity! We had dinner at "The Leather Nun's" home a few times...:-(

It sucks to lose such a great advocate of hard rock/heavy metal.....but there are only a few ways to contract Hep-C and don't they usually involve needles?

Oh yes, I guess I should have clarified my point.

Because none of the web postings I've seen have said that Tawn was a diabetic and contracted Hep-C via an insulin needle, I'm making a stretch and assuming that her heavy metal lifestyle may have lured her into the world of IV drug use.

If my assumption is correct, her sister shouldn't be too surprised that she wasn't at the top of the list for a liver transplant. If my liver decides to go tits-up because of my fondness for good whiskey, I hope they make me wait until those who didn't self-inflict their condition get the first priority.

According to Wikipedia, she contracted the disease as a child. But I admit, I made the same assumption as Grady at first.

And this is a good example of why we shouldn't go from making ASS-umptions to potentially tarnishing a recently deceased person's good name without checking the facts (or at least attempting to) first!

More people should know that when you "assume," you make an "ass" out of "u" and "me."

This is a huge loss for radio, and the music industry as a whole. (Look, this is a death thread, honest to God no puns or other silly business intended!)

During the time Tawn was a part of Bill Prescott's KUFO show (IIRC, Jan. 1997 to March 6, 1998), she seemed to quickly become the co-host of the show, but still giving Bill Jackson and Cort Weber a say every now and then - all while providing a female presence on the show which was sorely missed when Karen moved on to K103 traffic reports only (IIRC), and the "Nasty Nancy" bits just weren't cutting it. Considering what I later learned about multiple-person radio shows, it was amazing what must've gone into planning to pull it all off.

I'll never forget her crazy answers on Match Game '97, the "spoo" incident, and Ozzy remembering her from KNAC; but more than anything else, the thing I resented the most about the entire show's dismissal when Howard came to town was... Tawn used to voice the Shane Co. ads, making them listenable enough to keep from switching the station, even during other times of the day/week.

I know most people say it was a song that should've never been done, but the first thing that came to mind when I read the news was Ozzy/Lita Ford's "Close My Eyes Forever."

RIP, Tawn. You're already missed but not forgotten.

Don't believe everything you read in Wikipedia. Anybody can write that stuff.

Exactly how did she contract Hep-C as a child? It's still a blood bourne pathogin so there has to be blood exchange. If she was diabetic, then print it.

"...contracted as a child" is just too vague for me.

I think we all know that anyone can edit Wikipedia. But it should still remind us to not make assumptions, especially about the deceased.

Anyone here can go on Wikipedia and put down that Grady bangs monkeys.

That's why I don't believe half of what I read on Wikpedia and am highly skeptical of the other half.

It's nice to know that even God posts on pdxradio.com. Either that or a guy named Grady is doing a ugly imitation of Him.

When did I state that I was God (or a guy for that matter)?

This is a chat room people. I made an assumption, one which I still think is valid based on the fact that none of you have replied with information that would make me believe otherwise. Come on now, one of you "million post club" members who spends so much time on the internet must be able to find some credible information on how she contracted the virus. Then if my ass-umption was wrong, I'll be guilty as charged.

If I were God, I'd ask Tawn myself.

What does it matter (other than to satisfy your curiousity) how she contracted it, a talented, well-loved and respected radio person has passed away too soon. If you were a friend of hers, you'd probably know the whole story. And you'd love her anyways.

I would actually go as far as to say what's your business that you need to know a personal detail about someone in the first place? It's too bad this thread has been defaced by such drivel.
