I believe someone posted recently, what has Roger Hart been up to lately?

Roger is featured on the front page of the October "Northwest Senior & Boomer News" Portland Metro & Vancouver Edition.

There's a full color picture of Roger interviewing Jann Fraser, owner of the 1956 Chevy Bel Air convertible in the background, during a cruise-in event last Summer. The article is a retrospective on Rogers life in Radio, Managing, Paul Revere & The Raiders, the Dick Clark days & his Missionary work. Here's the last paragraph:

"Today, Hart continues to work in radio part time, doing such things as voicing promotional announcements for Sunny 1550 KKAD and helping create advertisements. He also hosts and serves as emcee for various events, including the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk and Senior Safari at the Zoo."

I've known Roger off and on for 30 years but learned things I never knew in this article.

Roger has also hosted some ballroom dances at different senior centres over the years.

Roger is a class act. If he writes a book, and he should, I'll buy it and get him to autograph it. The man has already lived more in his one life than most men would live in three.

I love Roger Hart and will be looking for a copy too. I wish there were a hyperlink to the article.

I am guessing that one could also get the latest issue from the publisher:

I grew up in Seattle and not Portland and thus wasn't familiar with Roger's whole radio history here, but he certainly has become a tradition in recent years on the Adult Standards stations in the Portland area. I got familiar with his voice on KKSN Sunny 910 (and later 1520), heard him when the Sunny format moved briefly to 1010 AM under the Bustos group's ownership, and now, of course, he is featured on KKAD 1550. It was smart of Pamplin Media to recognize that Roger needed to be affiliated with the station...

Was just thinking it's interesting to note that Raiders alumni Roger, as with Mark, has also picked up additional Gold & Platinum records after the Raiders. Rogers collection includes from memory: The Manhattans, L.T.D. & Pat Benatar. This was during Rogers time as ambassador for the groups on the promotional side.

Gee, I feel old now..... It was 45 years ago when I first met Roger.....pre-PR&R. He was a DJ at KEX as Roger Ferrier. Back when KEX was on the second floor of the building on SW 5th, near the entrance to I-405.

He was promoting a singer out of Seattle. I told him he should listen to PR&R. They were playing at the Headless Horseman and occasionally at the Trapadero Club in Vancouver. One day they played at the Pacific Livestock Exposition (Expo today) and he did go see them there.......

And the rest, as they say, is...........

Jimbo & everyone: Just heard from Roger via E-Mail. He wanted to first thank everyone for the kind words. Roger went into detail on a bunch of interesting topics back when. I asked him if I could print some of what he sent me and he said reluctantly OK. That's Roger, not wanting toot his own horn but loves to tell the stories. Needles to say Roger & I would talk at length when we were working in the same building. Roger at Sunny 910 & myself at Kisn-FM. Here's Roger:
_________________________________________________________________

I 1st met Paul Revere in early 1963, a year after I left KEX for KISN, and was actually on a break from Kisn, over to KKEY and KGON, only to return to Kisn in the fall of 1963. Through a fortuitous meeting, thanks to a bank teller, I put them into the Trapadero Teen Club in Vancouver their very first time...[they'd done the Headless Horseman as Jimbo mentioned] then Lake Oswego, then into the studio for "Louie, Louie", then becoming the groups manager [Paul Revere managed the group and its internal affairs, and I sought and managed the opportunities that developed]. Other dates followed, including the Expo date which I promoted. I'm sure Jimbo was a supporter of it all, and I appreciate that.

My special thanks to Jimbo and all the radio guys of the time who lent support, especially a great friend, Tom Murphy, and the Kisn crew of the time, including The 'Real' Don Steele, and Pat Pattee. In early 1965 when things really began to take off, both Tom and I left Kisn for our further adventures, which for the Raiders and myself was quite a ride. It's a book in itself.

Tom became a major personality in Seattle, then Chicago and LA followed. I may have been a pleasant and 'adequate' personality, but Tom and Don Steele were major talents. Both were lifelong Raider supporters as well. Without people like them, there would have been less success for us. Gino Rossi, Kisn photographer, was with us to document the ride, and stayed with us all through the Hollywood, record and television years.

Oh, and I don't have any recollection of who the Seattle singer mentioned was. The promotional side of me was always curious and busy...and usually, when I was on the air, I was also on the phone.

The Oregon Hall of Fame induction is next Saturday [10/13] at the Roseland. I hope the music loving public knows about it.

Speaking earlier of life after the Raiders, I wanted to mention Phil Volk, Bassist and the 'other' teen idol in PR&R later went on to travel with Ricky Nelson, then spent years performing for Disney [land and world] with his wife Tina Mason [the female vocalist on "Where The Action Is"] Drake Levin hjas done well as a prominent San Francisco blues guitarist, and Jim Valley, 'Harpo' to TV fans, went on to teach music appreciation to students all over the world. Still does. Life never stopped, just changed, except The Raiders lost loveable dummer Mike Smith, 'Smitty', a few years back.

Thanks, Craig. Outstanding post.

I'll be waiting to buy an autographed copy of Roger's hopefully-forthcoming book someday. Roger seems to be such a decent guy with an inside view that many of us can only guess about.

Well, I guess I got the sequence wrong but sometimes my memory fades. Glad Roger at least remembers and is doing well. I forgot about the Armory in Lake Oswego. That was used quite a bit for bands.

I don't remember the singer from Seattle's name. I think I could go through those boxes of '45's and figure it out but not today. I think he had a regional sorta hit and maybe that could be why we don't remember.

Welcome aboard Alex! Some readers might not know, both Roger & Alex worked in the same building at one time. Roger at Sunny 1520 Sales and Alex I believe was part of the Sales staff at NRK. It was great seeing them both at the same time. I believe Alex also worked for a brief time at Kisn-FM when we were at 5th & Taylor studios but decided to follow is dad into sales.

I went on to be an Engineer in August 1997 under Byron Swanson, Duane and Shane at Jacor Portland.

Then rejoining my Father in January of 1999 with Entercom in Sales thru 2004.

Alex: Yes, now I remember, it was The Dick Bartley Show I'd see You after. I almost said Earth 105 in my post but was unsure but completely forgot about your helping John Hugill in Production and I didn't know you worked as an Engineer at Jacor. Man, you've really had a taste of a good portion of radio jobs!
