The other morning while listening to 106.3 (In SE Portland, no less), I heard Charlie Busch joke that they were "radio on a budget," and that budget was "zero." Too bad there probably isn't a meaningful way for listeners to contact the new owners, to ask them to please not change the format of the station.

I have enjoyed the variety of music on Kloo Fm. Evenings you don't hear very many commercials or dj voicetracks.

....Author: Kennewickman Saturday, October 06, 2007 - 12:38 am CC dumping medium market properties. And the 'dumpings" will continue...cut and run.... A great headline for the announcement of this story would have been: ....drum roll please.... "CC takes $37m dump!" Bi-Coastal (Isn't that a coastal that goes both ways?) is NOT the savior of small-town radio. Don't EVER think it is.

FROM THEIR WEBSITE....... "Bicoastal Media, LLC's strategic growth plan includes acquiring additional stations in markets ranked 150-250 based on market revenues. Our goal is to be the top biller in every market and to offer diverse formats ranging from Classic Hits, Country and Adult Contemporary to Oldies, News/Talk and Sports Radio. Our philosophy is to develop strong decentralized local managers who are responsible for the day to day operations of their stations. We have specific financial objectives and compensation will be based on the ability to achieve those financial goals both short and long term. Bicoastal Media believes strongly in the fundamental building blocks of market research, training and speed to market. From programming to sales to engineering to administration, we will utilize the resources available and the feedback of every member of our team to provide the necessary planning and execution and monitoring required to MAKE IT HAPPEN! Kind of a generic mission statement. How about mentioning how you will serve the local communities? You want top billing, what do you offer the advertiser different from other broadcasters? What is it that makes you stand out? Can't see them being the top biller in Centralia........... OUR MOST IMPORTANT ASSET At Bicoastal Media we are proud of our employees. Radio first and foremost is a business of ideas. At Bicoastal Media we are fortunate to have outstanding employees from diverse experiences and backgrounds. Our employees consistently provide the dedication and creativity necessary for our company to succeed. If you are a broadcast professional looking for a career with a company where you can make a difference, please send your resume to: Michael Wilson President and Chief Operating Officer Bicoastal Media, LLC 140 North Main Street Lakeport, California 95453 E-Mail: mike@bicoastalmedia.com Bicoastal Media is an Equal Opportunity Employer Jobs Currently Available Lakeport/Ukiah, CA News Director Account Executives Operations Manager (Lakeport) Eureka, CA Market Manager Account Executive Board Operators Crescent City, CA Account Executive Coos Bay, OR General Sales Manager Account Executive Longview, WA General Sales Manager Account Executive Columbia River, OR Account Executive Obviously, you can't be a broadcast professional unless SM and AE are attached to your title. Once again thought they recognize creativity, actual "TALENT" is considered a liability to this company. Yep, a sales staff can hustle a propective advertiser, but, who brings the listener in to buy? I guess this is where the creativity comes in. Slick produced commercials that no one hears because you have no local staff to relate the advertiser to the listener, which gives them no reason to stick around after the block o' rock...... Good luck, but I see a less than rounded focus. You are selling nothing new, market specific, or different. I see nothing different about this brand of Jukebox radio. S.S.D.C.

Roger: That's why I said "meaningful." Advertisers sure have a way of meaningfully contacting them, they could call their rep. and say they won't renew if, as an example, their local ad might become lost in between national ads on a satellite feed. 106-3 has seemed to have somewhat of a pull in Portland, and I hope the present format continues - it's nice to hear REM, INXS, and Gin Blossoms occasionally on an otherwise classic hits station. What would be really cool is if they were able to find an unused FM translator in the Portland area that could rebroadcast the station in its present format. Yeah, it'd have to be owned/operated by a separate party from Bicoastal, but it would be great to still have it as a choice to listen to.

Bicoastal has arrived in the valley! Paul Walker was wondering and the dust has seemed to settle at least for now...I'm sure (and I know of) other changes. Nancy Steel was blown out at 4:45am on 10/01...I was blown out after 18 years at KPNW at 10:00am and then asked to work 2 more weeks during the transition. I saw this change coming 3 months ago...35 years in the business and you pick-up a few things. Now if I can just get my last paycheck...... Being a professional, I agreed and then they handed me my severance package info. There is a lot more to the story that I'll let slide at this time. But for now...I'm on the beach and looking for a gig. Contact me at...danm356@yahoo.com

presently waiting for C.C. to start up the money process. They know how to buy properties, but they sure don't know how to sell anything. I had my reasons for working the extra 2 weeks...and it was the professional thing to do.

Hmmmmm I remember reading "no changes planned" Liar liar pants on fire...... Oh wait, these were "UNPLANNED" changes. Yeah, add me to the "SUCKER" list as well. I got dumped at a station, then they called me back a couple of weeks later to fill in for the vacationing ND. So why are we professional enough to help them out of a jam? If we say no, it doesn't hurt our chances for another gig. If we say yes, we get another week or two of pay, and the opportunity to be let go a second time. We only have the satisfaction of knowing we are classier than they, but it's a hollow victory.

Its a trend everywhere this intestinal fortitude and gall asking a terminated employee for extra help and consideration. I knew the station I last worked for was changing image and that I probably wasnt part of it. So I agreed to read Christmas stories nightly, dropped in the automation during thier All Christmas Music Phase prior to their image change ( not format change BTW). They told me 'your a natural for this"...RIGHT ! I knew it was the prelude to the Guillotine. My first clue was about Dec 10 (they started the Christmas format on Nov 17) They took out my linered intro which included my air name...and the new liner became generic all of a sudden. Get a CLUE # 1. Ya and this latest start up investor company...GAP Broadcast..and GAP West (purchasing a number of CC groups over in this part of the Planet)...another "one" in the making i fear, their website says they are People Oriented and People Driven...ya..."what people " is the Question....

Hello again, everyone. It’s been a while since I posted. I’ve been in the biz 30+ years, and it continues to go belly up. The reason being is that there are heads in companies like BC and CC that are blind to the fact that A. Radio as a whole is dying And B. It’s because of THEM, and their practices that radio is dying You can’t just show up, buy out a few stations , and automate them anymore and get away with it like you could in the late 80’s and 90’s. Listeners have several choices- and guess what? They’re using them! Let’s ask our selves this: would you rather program 3,000 songs into your IPOD, and hear what ever you want commercial free; or tune into a poorly programmed automated station that plays the same songs over and over, has no personality, and oh yeah- ON TOP OF THAT, is interrupted by commercials? The choice is easy. We are living in a “right now” world. People have no patience, and because of technology, people can hear what they want- when they want. Now, if you program a station right, play good music, and have great personalities, then you are doing something that the IPOD can’t do- which is make a personal connection.

An IPOD is only 1 of several choices these days. How bout this and call me a traitor if you want ! I didnt plan on buying a new vehicle here about 3 weeks ago. I had my other one about 3.5 years and got it as a lease return so it was used when I bought it, but it was good enough for me, but there was something wrong with a heat/air mix valve and associated mechanical linkage and so they wanted 1000 bucks to fix the thing. Well B.S on that...See the dealers make it hard not to just sign up for a new car...the throw away society So , I just bought an new vehicle. This one has Satellite radio with FM/AM local and aux imputs for IPOD or MP3 player. And Sirius was paid up for 6 months with purchase. I been listening to Sirius for the last 3 weeks and its real nice...no spots and interesting formats 190 some channels. I never knew I liked " "Trance/Progressive House" Area 33 they call it. LOL...what fun ! I never heard of Trance music before, my kids knew about it but not DAD ...Its great sailing down the freeway listening to that and Im an old fart too. Pick ur format to match your mood. Hard to do in most places with Broadcast Radio, especially commercial free. So, its just another nail in the coffin. And its hard to compete with car dealers/MFGRS who are trying to survive and compete with everyone else as well...options vs. Mileage a hybrid or not etc...higher and higher gasoline prices...Its all connected together...a real free for all and I have said it before........and say it one more time: ..........Welcome to the 21st Century.........
