I actually had the chance to ask Jesse Jackson a direct question at a racial issues conference I attended in L.A. It was about engaging minority students in school, and that many of them need "hooks" beyond the promise of graduation and possible college. Anyway, his response was tone-deaf and one-note. I was really disappointed in his formulaic answer. Yes, I'm also very unimpressed with Jackson. He has made his mark on society, but he can't take a bow and exit.
