I was thinking of you today Herb when I read the news that Keyes was making his third attempt. What does he bring to the table that the others lack in your opinion.

Great question, Chris. I realize many on the left and right like to take potshots at Dr. Keyes, but he has gravitas for a variety of reasons. I believe the left is deathly afraid of a conservative Christian black man. Dr. Keyes is in a position to boldly state that the 'great society' has not worked, and has resulted in more poverty and more out-of-wedlock births among African-Americans. Dr. Keyes can also speak stridently about discrimination, about civil rights and first hand about what solutions are worth considering. Dr. Keyes offers an alternative view on issues of race as opposed to the one-dimensional liberal party line. As a man of faith, Dr. Keyes can also provide answers only found in faith. Dr. Keyes has a clear voice on issues. He's smart and speaks very, very well, and with passion. Dr. Keyes is unforgivingly pro-life. Dr. Keyes is strong on terror. In the 2008 presidential race, Dr. Keyes single-handedly gives the Republicans more racial diversity than the democrat party. This is in keeping with Mr. Bush's phenomenal appointment of more minorities than any other presidential administration in history. I'm now torn between Mike Huckabee and Dr. Keyes. May the best man win. Herb

"I believe the left is deathly afraid of a conservative Christian black man." It's now: Lonely Herb vs. the terrorists lurking around every corner! The rest of us vs. Conservative Christian Man (Black, even!!!). Whoa! Are you that far removed from reality to believe that? Whatever you've got in your bong, you should flush it. I guess I should be terrified, but I can't stop laughing while shaking my head in amazement...

I must preface this with a nod to Herb for being one of few modern conservatives who will acknowledge a vote for a candidate of color. "In the 2008 presidential race, Dr. Keyes single-handedly gives the Republicans more racial diversity than the [D]emocrat[ic] party. This is in keeping with Mr. Bush's phenomenal appointment of more minorities than any other presidential administration in history." For anyone not familiar with Uncle Tom's Cabin, the current the GOP looks pretty doggone diverse. However, when one looks closer, they find the same parrots in different colored feathers. Even the most distinguished American hero in the cabinet, General Colin Powell, was told to tap dance in the minstrel show. Alan Keyes is an interesting fellow. It is hard to disagree with some of what he has said over the years: "The flag that was the symbol of slavery on the high seas for a long time was not the Confederate battle flag, it was sadly the Stars and Stripes." "We must take away the government's credit card. With limits on both tax revenue and borrowing, the Federal government would finally be forced to get serious about spending cuts." "When we, through our educational culture, through the media, through the entertainment culture, give our children the impression that human beings cannot control their passions, we are telling them, in effect, that human beings cannot be trusted with freedom." "Bureaucracies are inherently antidemocratic. Bureaucrats derive their power from their position in the structure, not from their relations with the people they are supposed to serve. The people are not masters of the bureaucracy, but its clients." The problem with Alan is that he also drops nonsense filled doozies like these: "Christ would not vote for Barack Obama, because Barack Obama has voted to behave in a way that it is inconceivable for Christ to have behaved." I reluctantly admit he is right. According to Keyes logic, Christ would not have voted for a library bond either. Christ did not travel by jet, Christ did not go to college, Christ did not take the "L" in Chicago, and Christ never lived in a Democracy. "It's about time we all faced up to the truth. If we accept the radical homosexual agenda, be it in the military or in marriage or in other areas of our lives, we are utterly destroying the concept of family." I am not familiar with any radical homosexuals, tubular homosexuals, or homosexuals to the max. Perhaps it is because only a few homosexuals are trapped in the 1980s. He must know nothing but throwback gays and it gags him with a spoon. Oh my God! Like totally!

To confirm the left's over the top fear of a Keyes candidacy, one need look no further than this Trash N' Bash thread of the man. And comparing the Bush White House to Uncle Tom's Cabin? How pathetic of someone on the left to say that about the most diverse cabinet in US history. That's precisely what one would expect from the KKK. How far the left has fallen. My dream ticket remains Keyes-Huckabee. Herb

Herb- Can a Keyes-Huckabee ticket in this current political climate have a legitimate chance of getting nominated? I know we have a ways before the election and many things can happen, but do you think after what we have been through with Bush, is it possible that Keyes maybe considered too conservative?

Just like the EXTREME RIGHT saying that Slick Willy's House was the Sodom and Gomorrah??? Sad! VERY sad...... And just how far has the LEFT fallen when YOUR King of the EXTREME Craig fell as far as one can fall??? The VERY imbecile that spend the last 14 months of Slick Willy's last term chastising him for his infidelity.... Was caught himself.... How far the EXTREME RIGHT Bible thumpers have fallen.... Herb said>>> My dream ticket remains Keyes-Huckabee. Dream till your 6ft under... It will NEVER happen.... Nixon has a better chance coming back to life and running with Hillary as VP!

"Can a Keyes-Huckabee ticket in this current political climate have a legitimate chance of getting nominated?" Excellent question, Chris. And the answer is: Probably not. But man, do I ever vote my heart in the primary. With the one possible exception of Mr. Reagan, I would have picked EITHER ONE of these guys over anyone else on ANY ticket since Mr. Nixon. Herb

"I believe the left is deathly afraid of a conservative Christian black man." No Herb, we are laughing. Literally laughing. Much in the same way that I'm sure the Republicans laugh every time Nader throws his hat in the ring. Keyes is just another radical conservative that represents a fringe of the population, and he will capture that fringe, further diluting the kind of Republican unity that is absolutely necessary for the GOP to have a chance in hell of winning in '08. Yes, Keyes won't make it past the primaries, but by then the unity of the party will have been squandered and lost. And in my discussions with people about Keyes during the last election, not once did his race get mentioned - just his batshit crazy brand of consevativism. You see, Liberals think that everyone has the right to be aligned with the wrong political party, regardless of race.

"Dealthy afraid" Yeah right! Alan Keyes is a fool. Obama beat him by 43 percentage points. As far as I'm concerned, I say run Alan run. He only continues to point out how out of touch and ridiculous the right wing fringe really is. I'm not surprised you're supporting him though.
