Better re-think your candidates, liberals...you're going to need a tough on terror candidate. Even the French have wised up.

If you're talking about a "tough on terror" candidate like the current idiot in office, no thanks. It's been proven that his policy has done nothing but lead to more terrorism, more death, and more money down the drain.

Secondly, let the French deal with them if they're so inclined. They and the rest of Europe live a lot closer to Iran than we do. Let them police their own neighborhood. They have more at stake than we.

Appeasement didn't work with Neville Chamberlain and it won't work now. It only emboldens the bad guys.

The GOP's odds for 2008 have just gone up significantly. Americans want a strong on terror candidate.

That's a strong indictment against Homeland Security, Herb. Are you saying our current government is not doing a good job of keeping us safe? If we were checking every single cargo container and flight coming into the U.S. - as we should be - then you could check this fear off of your list.

You are correct. 24 is fiction.

However if you think that a small nuclear device could not be made to fit in a small roll around suitcase or something a bit smaller, then you are very naive. If someone could actually obtain all the materials required to build one is anybody’s guess.

There are nukes that will fit in a trunk, as there are nukes that fit inside a 155 MM round. However, they are transported in larger, very heavy shilded containers. If you take it out of the container, and carry it for a while, you will start to glow in the dark.

That reminds me of gen Curtis Lemay (should of had 5 stars), his plan to explode very dirty, small nukes along the S Vietnamese border, when asked about it, he replied, well, if it doesnt kill them all, at least they will glow in the dark.

You ever see the movie "The Peacemaker". Herb, there's a cost and a benefit to our actions, and I believe the cost to invade Iran compared to the benefit of not worrying about a suitcase nuke is not worth it. We already see how the cost/benefit analysis has worked out in Iraq. If you stay up at night worrying about stuff like this, you are paranoid and should seek help.

If you have better solutions for Iran, please weigh in.

But if you're gonna go the internationalist route as is the wont of so many liberals, the UN ain't gonna cut it. It couldn't cut it in Bosnia, it couldn't cut it in Darfur, it couldn't cut it in Iraq and it sure as heck ain't gonna cut it in Iran.

So with that approach:

Setup multinational economic sanctions with carriers sitting off of their coastline.

Sanctions = walking softly
Carriers = Big Frickin Stick

If the sanctions fail then bash em with the stick!

It's at least worth the effort to try them and then have a plan also in place in case they choose to ignore them.

And Nwokie, I am laying down a challenge to you;

On your next post in this thread, I want to see you type out at least 5 lines of text, in one post, in this thread, saying whatever you want to say, that doesn't have one single grammatical or spelling error. It has to be perfect in all ways. ( Content won't be judged. Form will ). Just once. If you do it, I will donate 25 dollars to this website. It's not that I am being the spelling police. I just want to know that you can do it - once. Heck, I'll even toss in a donation of 10 bucks to the cause of your choice.

"Teddy Roosevelt said it best. Walk softly and carry a big stick....."

No, my friend, that is not what he said.

What he actually said was, "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far."

You know what else he said?

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

The whole idea of the UN, while oft noble, is fatally flawed.

To expect a group of disparate countries, with different customs, languages, religions, histories, and interests to agree on much, is asking a bit much.

It's lowest common denominator politics. Besides, what soldier would be willing to die for the UN? God and/or country, maybe. But for the UN?

If countries want to band together, fine. I simply don't place much faith in the UN. Read the book of Revelation if you want to know about global governance.

I kinda agree with Herb. The UN in and of itself of so bogged down in red tape and personal agenda that we are better off seeking co-operative countries to join forces with and bypass the UN when action needs to be taken and time is of the essence. The UN drags things out to long and then by that time it is often so late in the game that it just costs more lives or resources to correct the problem.

I am not a fan of the UN as it stands today! Could be just another relic from the Cold War days that needs dismantling.

I don't think I tap danced around anything. I've been with my son at the hospital all day and haven't been following it.

I'm not sure what the ACLU's position in this would be, but I seriously question the constitutionality of what they did to him. There is nothing illegal about taping your foot and reaching you hand down under a stall. Certain people may regard it as a signal for something, but doesn't this get a little close to prevention of free speech and expression. They didn't do anything did they? I think this sting business is getting very dangerously close to "thought police".

By the way, how did Larry Craig and the ACLU get into this thread. Is there another devoted to the topic?
