President Nixon definatly made a few mistakes, but its interesting how the libs still treat Kennedy considering how much has come out about him. He probably stole an election, showed total lack of guts in giving in to the Russians over the cuban missile crisis, went back on his word during the bay of pigs, treated the white house typing pool as his personal harem, etc.

Last time I checked, Cuba was still a communist country.

If Mr. Kennedy had indeed prevailed, Cubans would be free, 48 years later. Instead, the Cuban people have been sentenced to half a century of impoverished existence with no freedom of speech and hostility toward freedom of assembly and worship.

Yeah, go ahead and defend the indefensible. When Cuba is indeed free, you'll see how truly pathetic Mr. Kennedy's failure was. Mr. Kennedy may have been a nice guy, but to defend this abysmal failure is a sick joke.

Kennedy prevented World War III didn't he? He prevented total annihilation didn't he? Say what you want, and I am NOT talking about the Bay of Pigs or Cuba being Communist ... I am talking about a point that Nwokie brought up, that being that Kennedy failed during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and I pointed out the other side.

That is like saying that George Bush Sr.'s actions during Desert Storm were failed because he "failed to finish the job" when the job was completely fulfilled, and that was to get Saddam out of Kuwait. Kennedy wasn't seeking to oust Castro, he was simply seeking to get the missiles out of Cuba ... and it worked, didn't it?

They had bigger nukes. and many more. A war would have been bad for both sides, but Kruschief(sp) got what he wanted , our missiles out of Turkey. We may have gotten missiles out of Cuba, but by negotiating, Kennedy renounced the Monroe Doctrine which had been around for over a hundred years.

Ooooh! We haven't heard this one for a while!

HerrB still lives in 1961, and is just jealous that Nixon never got a "Happy Birthday Mr. President" from a hottie like Marilyn Monroe.

It wasnt the war in Afghanistan that bankrupted the soviet union, they never had more than a couple of divisions and a couple fighter wings there, + some special forces. It was the cost associated with trying to keep up with "star wars' that bankrupted them.

Wait a minute.

You call me a liar.
I say show me.
You call me a liar.
I say show me.

Since you've stonewalled far more than Mr. Nixon could have, let me help you:

http://www.c-spanarchives.org/congress/?q=node/77531&id=7356370

And to help you out a little bit more, here's an excerpt:

"The International Red Cross observes the entire facility and has access to all of the prisoners to talk to them on a one-on-one basis. There have been no deaths in Guantanamo. And you know, in prisoner-of-war camps in the past, Americans have died. Back in the war between the States, thousands of prisoners, Confederate and Union soldiers died. In Vietnam, about 9 percent of the Americans in custody there died. In Korea, about 30 percent. In World War II, we know that about 40 percent of Americans in custody in Japan died, all in prisoner-of-war camps, and not one person has died in these."

So, Trixter.
It is far more dangerous to ride in Mr. Kennedy's car than a stay at Guantanamo.
Who's the liar, Trixter?

Give us a better description than 'socialist' when one embraces the ideology of socialism as many on this board are wont to do.

These include many on the democrat's party platform:

Government health care.
Jobs for all.
Mandated child care.
Government-subsidized housing.

Be thankful that I usually reserve the term commie largely for Castro and his ilk.

How do you feel about the following socialist programs:

Police
Fire
Education
Military
Search and Rescue
Dept of transportation

Those are not socialist programs.

Those are the services that the Government is supposed to provide and I am glad to have my tax dollars go for. With the exception of education. I don’t have an issue with taxes going for the schools. However, if I’m not happy with the way and what my kids are learning in the Government (pronounced Public) Schools, then I should have the freedom to put my kids where I want and my tax dollars should follow.

What I'm not happy about my tax dollars going for are (as in socialist programs):

Government subsidized health care.
Government subsidized baby murdering. (i.e.: tax dollars going to Planned Parenthood)
Subsidizing someone's ride to work. (Busses and Loot Rail)
Social (In)Security. Let me have my money to do with it as I see fit.

As you say; the list goes on.

Other than the essential Government responsibilities, EVERYTHING else should be left to private industry.

It would save us taxpayers tons of money and it would be done better.

Yep, leave it to the private industry and what you get is Enron and Halliburton like companies that saved you money and got the job done better. NOT!

And you know what Skybill, your ride to work is government subsidized as well. It's called the Dept of Transportation.

i{And you know what Skybill, your ride to work is government subsidized as well. It's called the Dept of Transportation.}

Cool. How do I get them to make my car payment, Insurance payment and pay for my gas?

Highways and roads and the associated infrastructure are the Government's responsibility. We all pay for the roads and their maintenance.

What I object to is subsidizing the guy that makes $100K bus/loot rail ride to work. That should be private industry. If it costs $10 to haul someone from Gresham to downtown Portland or from Camas to Vancouver, then that's what it should cost them to ride.

Your turn.

It wouldn't be so bad if the money we spend for gasoline taxes actually funded roads.

However in this socialist haven called Oregon, they spend much of it instead on boondogles like light rail and bike lanes.

And amen to you, Skybill on your pointing out planned parenthood's subsidized baby killing.
