Anyone else ever notice the music service that Burgerville uses in their stores? In this 50 year old male's opinion it's a great mix of oldies. If a someone used this playlist, tightened up the segues, and added some good jingles and liners, they'd have a killer oldies station. Even if it was jockless. Any other old fossils agree?

By the way we had lunch at a Burgerville today and one of my 19 year old daughter's friends remarked (unprompted I might add) how good the music was. I can't help wondering how hard it would be to market a 50s, 60s, and 70s format to younger folks. I think conventional wisdom says it's impossible. But why then do national spots use jingles based on oldies to market products to young people?

Yes, I have noticed it for a long time and commented so on this forum some time ago. I like it but don't exactly like the Burgerville product enough to go there too often. Unless the grandkids make me take them there for their chicken fix but they keep wondering why I know the names of all the songs that are played and even can sing along to most of them....which irritates them. Let's go more often. The same can be said for Izzy's in Gresham. I am told they put on the Sirius '50's channel and most customers like it.

Yeh! It's probably that old Burgerville joint in "Otis". They don't get a lot of customers so all the food has freezer burn! It's never really warmed up for you.

Don't You just love ice cream that's melted and then re-frozen? Mmmmmmmmmmmm GOOD!

Love Burgerville. . .. sure does depend on the location for quality. The original store in downtown Vancouver is still the best by far. The 'cold food' and the homeless folks taking up entire booths turn me off at the Carmen Drive/I-5
location. . .never go back there again!

I always seem to get cold food at the Booger-viles that I visit (Newberg, Hillsboro most notably). The B-Ville that suprised me the most was the one a few blocks east of the Rose Quarter...I actually got a HOT Tillamook Cheeseburger basket!

(Oh yeah, the music was pretty good too.)

I understand the locals in Lincoln City used to avoid the south end Dairy Queen like the plague! It was a long time ago and there weren't many choices. I wonder if it ever improved. I got caught there a couple of times, myself. The other location was perfectly fine.

Ya, January 1963 @ Burgerville Millplain, Vancouver. 19 cent burgers and 35 cent milkshakes. Large fries were 25 cents I think. You could feed a 12 year old 2 burgers, Fries and a Milkshake for a buck. That was enough to get all the way to breakfast.

The newest one in Vancouver (Salmon Creek 134th street location) is quite impressive and i've always had warm food served. It is very busy at lunch and terribly overpriced for fast food. You could go to Red Robin for darn near the same price.

I went to B'ville for the first time with my nieces at the one on Scholls. The drive up dude was scratching his chin under his beard with a plastic cup lid while waiting for our order to come up. Then he put the lid on one of our drinks and passed them out to us.

Hey Danner I agree, Burgerville has really gone downhill over the lst 5 years! Id love to write a letter to the corporate office but Im sure its just a waste of time. The last time I went to the Burgerville on 185th, I sware to god the guy was stoned out of his mind. His eyes looked so glazed and bloodshot it was almost funny. Im sure they are smoking pot right over my food. Again, I would like to send a letter of complaint, but do you honestly think anyone cares???

There is a picture on the wall in several Burgervilles. It's about 50 years old. Sitting at the counter in the middle of the picture is what looks strikingly like BOTH of my parents, down to my mother's reaction to my dad's expression! It isn't but it sure DOES look like them!

All the time? Then why keep going back? Again and again? (Sorry, couldn't resist!)

"My" Burgerville was always the one in Gladstone, or, in an emergency, the one in West Linn or St.Helens.

No Burgerville's where I live now, but they did just open a new Culver's. YUMMY! And their music is pretty good too!

That was one of their commercials in the mid-90s! Except, they were trying to describe the competition.

I've been to good ones, bad ones, and a few mixed bags. Here's my list, based on memory (left off the ones I haven't been to in years):
Good:
12th & Hawthorne
134th St. & Hwy. 99 (Salmon Creek)
Mixed Bag:
26th & Powell
99th St. & Hwy. 99
Mill Plain Blvd. off I-5
Mill Plain Blvd. & 117th Ave.
Bad:
185th & Walker Rd. (Once waited an hour for food, taking up my lunch break. When I got back, I was yelled at for bringing food back with me AND for being five minutes late.)

lander sez: "Got fired for throwing food at an old lady."

I wouldn't be surprised if it was my grandmother! She loved that place (Mill Plain & Stapleton) but never cared for the staff. (She often had a cab pick up the food!)

Having been to a few Burgervilles regularly, I'll comment on these:

12th & Hawthorne. Best restaurant in chain hands down. Great for people watching. Right in front of bus stop on one of the most busiest bus lines.

Gresham. Iffy. Cold fries a specialty.

Tigard I-5 Carmen Rd. Small, crowded, food is "ok".

Newberg. Not a bad "small town" place. Friendly staff, BUT, no offense, some of the managers need to cut back on eating the fries. Some of the best shakes I ever had came from here.

burgerville report
--------------------------------------------

MLK+easiest to get to from our house so we go to this one first darMY FRIEND told them we were from pdxradio and then asked what kind of radio they had. the girl was only at least 16 so she did not really now. she asked her manager and it was a jukebox. but i dont think it was a real wirlitzer. MY FRIENDr asked if it was but she walked away because the fries machine kept beeping.

hawthorne+this one is the one i always like.me and MY FRIEND used to come here and play magic, the, gathering, for hours back in the early 2000's. thIS TIME i was the one we told them we were from pdxradio and were doing a report on burgerville radio station and MY FRIEND said it sounded like khits because he heard a lenny kravits but she said it was a satelite like XM. hahahahahahhha he totally got molded on that one. and then i told the manager who actually had a mustache. i told her he wanted to ask her on a date and he smacked me on my lip. hahahhaah a stole some spread they had in abox on the counter. i put that stuff all over my fries that i cook at home. they charge you 15 cents for that normally so we both got about 5 or 6 each.

Garden HOME+this is a pretty good one. MY FRIENDS grandma used to live by here and we use to always go to this one we called them lastnight and DT totally pranked them hard. although he told me he cant do anymore pranks. hahhaa ya right. YOU DONT EVEN NOW!!!! but this one we had the same problem with before the girl was about 16 only and when DT told her he was from PDXRADIO she thought we were the police. hahahahahahahahahhhahah we are almost at the final destination of target in washington square so we wanted to get something to eat and i could not afford a meal so i just got the 99 cents burger and a small ice water. DT went with his usuale of a half pounder colasoul cheaseburger! haha he did not finish it though so the 16 years old girl must have been high on pot or something because she was acting real weird around DT. So she went and got her manager before we could even ask. but when the manager came out he was real cool when we told him were from pdxradio he said he use to be a dj back in the olden days at the skating rink and then in the 80s he said he worked at a small radio station in hermiston doing funny voices. dt did a funny voice to him and asked him what kind of radio they were listening to but the guy didnt laugh, and told us to get out of the store or he was going to call the cops. that was the weirdest thing ever. ok well i got 2 more of these that we stppoed at on the way back but my wife wants me to come to bed now so tomorow unless i can sneak up after she falls asleep.

I'm starting to add a few things up. It's a fact that "Gary The Retard" ('whackpacker' and frequent phone guest on the Howard Stern Show) lives in Albany and works at the Burgerville there.

Gary's in his 50's and gets-along pretty well on his own. And he speaks just like kissntell writes.

Hmmm, since we've never actually SEEN 'em together....

Hey Lander, I think you were the one that actually discovered "Gary the Retard". Because If I remember correctly, he used to call up your show waaaay before he called up Craig and porkchop on KUFO! Its too bad Craig and Porkchop got all the credit, when you actually discoverd him.
Was watching an old rerun of the Howard Stern show on the E channel a few years back, and there was "Gary the Retard" in Studio with Howard Stearn wearing his KUFO T shirt. What ever happened to Gary??

Gary did call the show regularly and I used him for YEARS. I didn't call him "Gary the Retard", however. In that way, Dogface and P.C. DID discover him.

To me, he was simply "Gary in Albany". When he started showing up on Stern's show, I was blown away! It made him famous.

Craig and Porkchop did the funniest bit on Kufo. They took "Gary the Retard" Out and got him a complete makeover with the "queer Eye for the Straight guy boys. The audio was absolutely halarious, and the pictures were even funnier. Infact Kufo hasn't updated the pictures on their website in over 5 years, so the pictures are probably still there.

Beano... the impression I get from years of Stern listening is that the "core group" (Dell'abate, Norris, Lange, Quivers and the writing crew) gets paid -and paid well-, but the guests get either nothing or some minimum scale to cover union regs, if any apply, and I would doubt that.

The "guest" category includes one-timers like authors, actors and others with specific current product to plug... AND a group of regular guests that are brought-in for their weirdness ...like Gary, Beetlejuice, Daniel Carver the Ku Klux Klan guy, Bigfoot, etc. Most of them have websites & outside appearances they plug, so the Sirius show appearance is of benefit to them. And I've heard it mentioned that travel & accommodations are covered for their NY stay.
