In memos that reveal Coretta Scott King being closely followed by the government, the FBI noted concern that she might attempt “to tie the anti-Vietnam movement to the civil rights movement.”

Don't think this stuff isn't happening today? Think again. Abuses will occur without oversight.

I do doubt it is happening today, since people in the government are surely a little skittish about it. Note how a lot of higher ups at Justice threatened to resign en masse in 2004 when Bush tried to re-authorize the wiretapping program, leading to Gonzo's infamous visit to Ashcroft's hospital bed. But I have no doubt it COULD definitely happen again someday based on past abuses. These things do tend to erode over time.
