Anyone else getting call from 786-923-0962? The caller ID says it's Sunland Properties.

They call me every day between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM.

Same scenario; there is never anyone on the other end and after about 45 seconds I get reorder busy.

I put every number I have control over on the Do Not Call list when it first came out and that stopped most of them.

I report this number everyday when they call.

I really think that we need to do away with the Do Not Call list and make an "It's OK to call list"

If your number isn't on the list NO unsolicited commercial calls are allowed.

The way it is now, political and nonprofit organizations can still call.

Comments?

Amus, Yeah, that's a pretty good site for that kind of stuff.

I haven't gotten your number yet Skybill, but 10 times (I counted them) this morning between 10:50 and 11:35 (when I connected to the Inet) I kept getting a fax machine in Anahaim, CA--(714) 719-2200 trying to ping my line.

Wouldn't do them much good because I don't have a FAX machine! (I think I still have my old copy of Ring Zero Fax computer programme somewhere tho--might install it tomorrow and just set it to monitor my line for whatever should come in whilst I am at work. 'Twould be interesting.......)

Maybe they still are? Don't know because at this very moment now *my* modem is tying up my line! Right back at'cha Anaheim!! ;o)

Here's a trick to do when you get a fax machine that calls you, if you can get the number of the machine that called.

Take several sheets (maybe about 5) of paper and write in big words on them NEVER SPAM FAX ME AGAIN then tape them end to end.

Start feeding them in your fax machine and when the first page comes out, tape it to the end of the last sheet making a loop.

It will run until you shut it off.

It will to one of several things to the receiving fax machine;

Fill up its buffer so it can’t receive any more faxes.

Run it out of paper.

Or if it is one of the old machines that still use rolled thermal paper it will run the whole roll out!

I had some mortgage company that kept spam faxing me every Monday and they made the mistake of putting their fax # on the ad, and it was an 800#.

I made about 50 copies of the Never Spam Fax Me Again note and started feeding them in my fax machine. Every time it got down to about 5 pages left, I took the out feed pile and put it back onto the in feed pile.

I did this for over 2 hours as I was able to just keep working and glance at the fax machine once in a while. The fax machine count was well over 300 pages each time I did it!

After 3 or 4 times, they quit spam faxing me!

Hey Skybill. Try calling the line provider I listed and see if they can assist you. Also I have something else for spam faxers. I used to have a list of several notoriously bad fax spammers and if angered would sign them up on all of them as a favor in return!

Skybill, I used to work for the Washington Employment Security office (ak.a. "Work Source") at Tower Mall a few years ago.......the fax machine was right next to my desk, and at least twice a day we would get junk faxes coming in advertising extravagant vacation packages, miracle cures for pretty much anything that ails you, how you can get a $500,000,000 insurance policy for only 69¢, etc.

All seemed to originate from the same two (yes, 2!!) numbers. A co-worker suggested doing exactly what you mentioned. Needless to say we stopped getting junk faxes for a good four months or so! (Then they started again, and back to the paper loop we went.....)

Thing about junk faxes is it wastes paper, which costs money. This might not seem like too big of a deal if you are an individual using a fax machine at home, but in a business every wasted sheet does add up.........

Of course, it does help contribute to the Scratch Paper Box!!

What bothers me is that it works, or they wouldn't be doing it.

>>we need to do away with the Do Not Call list and make an "It's OK to call list"

It wouldn't matter as long as the laws aren't enforced. Unsolicited commercial calls to unlisted cell phones are illegal regardless of whether or not the number is on the DNC list. Many who have DNC listed their cell numbers are still getting calls. I have gotten a few spam calls to my cell phone in recent weeks, and as best as I can tell there is no recourse other than getting a recording of the call and taking them to court.

Solution: Ditch your landline and go cell only.

I've used a the same cell phone number for over 10 years as my only phone number, and I never receive any soliciting calls from anyone, unless it's someone that I actually do business with already. So, there must be a correlation with having a landline.

I think (not sure) that the minute you sign up for land-line based phone service, the phone company starts selling the info, before they even send the info that says you can opt-out. They misspelled my name, and almost all the junk mail to my residence was with the misspelled name. Should mention they were the ONLY company that did; everyone else spelled my name correctly.

As for calls, I had caller ID and no answering machine - I told people if they were going to call me that their caller ID was their message, if it was "anonymous" or whatever then I wouldn't answer the phone. So, when the telemarketers called, I simply didn't answer - or if I did, I'd answer with some sort of nonsense - that would stop those calls fast.
