Seeing that he was smart enough to know the 727 rear door could be opened in flight and his detailed instructions to the flight crew (flap settings, landing gear down) ensured that the door WOULD open during flight pretty much assures me we're talking about a master criminal who planned every step of the way.

He got away with it. He deliberately tossed some of the loot to throw us off track.

By the way, for all you laid off discjockeys, the FAA has since ordered all 727's rear doors modified with a cooper lock. :-)

We don't know much about cooper, if he was an experienced parachutist, I would say there was a 99% chance he survived the jump.

Technically, it wasnt a difficult jump. although coming down in trees is always dicy.

Be courious when the assorted statue of limitations run out, if he comes out.
