--Bicoastal Media Hits 50 Stations with Washington Pair--

By Jeffrey Yorke

Ken Dennis' Bicoastal Media LLC grew by two Tuesday (Aug. 28) by picking up KELA-AM and KMNT-FM, both in Centralia, Wash., from Clear Channel. The price has not been disclosed.

In early May, Bicoastal struck a deal, also with Clear Channel, to buy 14 of its Oregon stations for $37.18 million. The young company got outlets in Albany, Ashland, Corvallis, Eagle Point, Eugene, Florence and Medford with that deal.

On Jan. 31, Bicoastal bought all five of Rep. Greg Walden's Columbia Gorge Broadcasting stations in Oregon, and the latest acquisition gives the nine-year-old company 50 stations in California, Oregon and Washington.

Bicoastal says its strategic growth plan includes acquiring additional stations in markets ranked 150-250 based on market revenues. "Our goal is to be the top biller in every market and to offer diverse formats ranging from classic hits, country and adult contemporary to oldies, news/talk and sports radio," the company says on its Web site.

"Our philosophy is to develop strong decentralized local managers who are responsible for the day-to-day operations of their stations. We have specific financial objectives, and compensation will be based on the ability to achieve those financial goals both short and long term."

Could Bicoastal be acquiring the Clear Channel clusters in Yakima and the Tri-Cities? How about Missoula, Bozeman, Billings, Idaho Falls/Pocatello and Twin Falls? (The Blue Point deal recently fell through.)

Bi-Coastal Media?

Looks like they've gobble up all of Northwest Small towns radio's. Look for them to be in Bend, Oregon in the future.

"Spanish on any of these new purchases?"
-----------------------------------------
Why? Think that's in the mind of anyone that buys a
Pacific Northwest radio station?
or,
You really want Spanish to be the dominant language of the USA? LOL!

I wouldn't mind if Spanish was the dominant language in the US. It's the most spoken language in America.
Heck; I wouldn’t even care if Portuguese, Mandarin, or French was the dominant language. As long as I am able to keep feeding my family and my business going, it really doesn't matter what language is spoken in the US or what currency we use. After all, they are all symbols that represent our assets.

And like everyone else on the planet I am most comfortable speaking my native language. Now if I wanted to live in Germany, I would expect to be able to speak fluent German at some point either before or soon after I moved over there to live.

Having said that ; Why would I want North America full of some language that I dont understand and dont care to learn just because others want to inundate this country with thier own lingo instead of learning the "spoken tounge". It works both ways.

The most spoken language in America is English.

All of Central America, 75% to 80% of South America, and about a fourth of North America have Spanish as their Native and primary language. The US makes up about an eighth of the American Continent.

Itsvern...I think Jay_zie was simply asking if any of the stations were Spanish. Though I think he is a mental midget that is what he was asking. So don't be so defensive. Your hood is a bit too tight. Also..Jay_zie though the language a person decides to broadcast is one thing, the issue of dominant language of the US is another. So cut the crap about any other language other than English as the USA language. As far as the stations which is what the thread is about. I don't think bicoastal will change anything other than maybe less personal or using people in their other markets to consolidate certain operation duties.

Still think they paid too much. 4+ mil for the market is a big nut. don't think there is much "fat" to trim either.

This from R&R:

---------------------Bicoastal Adds Two Regional VP's--------------------
By Julie Gidlow

Bicoastal Media has announced the promotion of two market managers to regional VP positions. Gary Grossman, market manager of the Columbia River, Ore., group, has been named regional VP for the Northwest region, while Joe de Groot, market manager for the Coos Bay, Ore., cluster, will serve as VP of the coastal region. Both add responsibilities in additional markets and will report directly to company president Mike Wilson.

"Gary and Joe bring years of broadcast management experience to their new positions," Wilson said. "Their unique skill sets will provide leadership and growth in their regions."

well, KMNT and KELA are back in their studios but I am sure about exactly how the flood affected them. One sign of the fact that the studio was abandoned because of the flood is that the PAD on the HD Radio stream for KMNT still says Rodney Atkins in the artist portion and Watching You in the song portion which I assume was the last song played before the operations moved to a temporary location.

They are operating from trailers in the parking lot. the old studio facility is unihabitable due to the toxic nature of the mud which rose to 5+ feet inside the building!

I heard they are planning to build a new facility. Either a taller one at the same location or at a different location.

Thanks to Kent you can see for yourself:

If they build new I hope they salvage the Bing Crosby hand and foot prints in cement from the front porch of the current building. Its a piece of Twin Cities radio history!!
