I'd like to see the face of a Washington State Trooper as you pull up behind him at a stop light. |

According to Herb's rules, having one of those would require every police officer who sees you to pull you over because you are a lawbreaker. |

If you can read it, the guy behind you is breaking the law by tailgating. Call 9-1-1 and report the driver. |

You both get the ticket then......one for tailgating and the other for impedeing traffic and not keeping right except to pass. |

I've had jerks on my tail while I was in the left lane going 5 mph over the limit passing the slower drivers on the right. |

So long as you are moving faster than the other traffic and after a fair amount of space after passing you move right again and I am for some reason wanting to go faster than that, I will not tailgate you. Actually I have sort of quit it all together with this new kick i'm on about eliminating some types of stress. Speeding, tailgating, are a couple of them. I got out of the left lane a while back and only venture there when the right two are less than the limit. And why tailgate someone in the left lane when the right two lanes are open and you can simply go around. My ego ain't such as to insist that person get out of that lane and let me by......how dare they slow me down! I usually go with the flow in the center lane and always observe a self imposed 10% rule, never more than 10% over posted, and 0% rule in schools and construction zones. This has made a difference for me and I am not so wigged out when I get home. I used to be able to read the tag number on your back plate if you were going to slow in the left lane but not anymore. Oh Yah.....something that helps when someone is tailgating you and you can't go any faster is to turn your mirror so you can't see them. This takes a few tries but once you get used to it what you can't see don't bother you. Just remember to return it to proper function once the jerk is off of your tail! This is also a great way to get the high beamer behind to to dim his lights, aim your rear view, and side view mirrors if possible, straight back. Electric remote mirrors are great......this throws of a mean reflection and it usually works everytime. |

Giving your windshield a good wash with a generous amount of washer fluid is a fairly effiencent way of dropping off tailgaters. |
