I found this on the Toyota Nation board (www.toyotanation.com)and thought it worthy of posting here. Tax truth : At first I thought this was funny...then I realized the awful truth of it. Be sure to read all the way to the end! Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table At which he's fed. Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes Are the rule. Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat. Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt. Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think. Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries, then Tax his tears. Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find other ways To tax his a.. Tax all he has Then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough. When he screams and hollers, Then tax him some more, Tax him till He's good and sore. Then tax his coffin , Tax his grave, Tax the sod in Which he's laid. Put these words upon his tomb, " Taxes drove me to my doom..." When he's gone, Do not relax, Its time to apply The inheritance tax. Accounts Receivable Tax Building Permit Tax CDL license Tax Cigarette Tax Corporate Income Tax Dog License Tax Excise Taxes Federal Income Tax Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA) Fishing License Tax Food License Tax Fuel Permit Tax Gasoline Tax (42 cents per gallon) Gross Receipts Tax Hunting License Tax Inheritance Tax Inventory Tax IRS Interest Charges IRS Penalties (tax on top of tax) Liquor Tax Luxury Taxes Marriage License Tax Medicare Tax Personal Property Tax Property Tax Real Estate Tax Service Charge Tax Social Security Tax Road Usage Tax Sales Tax Recreational Vehicle Tax School Tax State Income Tax State Unemployment Tax (SUTA) Telephone Federal Excise Tax Telephone Federal Universal Service Fee Tax Telephone Federal, State and Local Surcharge Taxes Telephone Minimum Usage Surcharge Tax Telephone Recurring and Non-recurring Charges Tax Telephone State and Local Tax Telephone Usage Charge Tax Utility Taxes Vehicle License Registration Tax Vehicle Sales Tax Watercraft Registration Tax Well Permit Tax Workers Compensation Tax STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY? Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What the hell happened? Can you spell "politicians!" And I still have to "press 1" for English.

I've seen that before. I think the list of taxes came from the documentary "America: Freedom to Fascism," done by the "Trading Spaces" guy. Good information - use with discretion. ...if you dont pay your taxes, there are pleanty of laws to put you in jail. There's a lot of other things they'll try to get you for as well.

Man......it may not be a law but if the court directs you to pay and you do not you can be arrested and jailed for failure to comply with a court order. Oh, and if you don't pay I truly believe that there is a "Living Hell" department at the IRS in which your name will become a permanent resident. If you have a legitimate beef with the IRS please feel free to call their Toll Free complaint line at 1-800-Audit-me, available 24 hours.

Congress gives the IRS authority to set tax rules, failure to comply with them, is a violation of the law. Same as there are no laws governing military justice, except congress passed the UCMJ, which gives the military the power to try people.

"Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids." Sorry, but I have to call BS on this. A simple Googling pulls up the following pdf.- http://usinfo.state.gov/usa/infousa/trade/files/century.pdf In it we find out the following: - American standard of living has risen dramatically during the 20th century. Average full-time employee works 40 hour week v. 60 hour week in 1900. We spend about 15% of income on food v. 44% in 1900. We produce and consume six times more good and services today. We live about 30 years longer now than in 1900. In 1900 Britain was the worlds wealthiest nation, today it is the USA. Our average incomes are 20% higher than Europeans or Japanese (and they pay a much higher percentage of their income in taxes than we do). - in 1900 the highest earning region of the US (West) made three times the income of the lowest (South). Today, the highest (Northeast) is just 30% higher than the lowest (South), meaning that our country has economically 'leveled out'. -Per Capita income (in 1998 dollars) was $4,700 in 1900, today it is $32,444. In 1900 it took the average worker 56 minutes to earn enough money to buy a half gallon of milk, 20 minutes for a Hershey bar, and 107 hours for 100 kWh of electricity. Today those figures are respectively 7 minutes for the milk, 2 minutes for the Hershey bar, and 38 minutes for the electricity. - The things we do spend a higher % of our income on today is medical care, transportation, and recreation. Clothing, however, is half as expensive today as it was in 1900. -47% of people owned their own home in 1900, today it is 66% (this is a strong indicator to me that the middle class has grown since 100 years ago, not shrunk). And on and on and on. It's so much fun to bitch about taxes, and we are certainly paying more than we were 100 years ago - I will not dispute that. But to say that taxation has destroyed americas economy is absolutely false. In fact, our national prosperity has generally increased in times of higher taxation, not gotten worse.
