Is it just me, or does anyone else think 24 Hour Fitness is one of the dirtiest places to work out at. I just joined a 24 Hour fitness over a year ago, and since then I have acquired athletes foot twice, Two large warts on my elbow( from the machine I was doing arm culrs. After working out at the gym for only 2 weeks, I started getting REALLY bad acne on the back of my head, So Bad it would bleed in the shower as I would wash my hair. Now I realize that every person needs to take some responsibilty in the matter by bringing a towel when you are working out, or wearing flip flops when you are taking a shower at the gym, but still. Shouldn't the gym be a little more responsibile in making sure that their gyms are more clean.?? I'm honestly surprised that the Health department hasn't shut some of those places down or FINED them heavily.

What, you're not using alcohol wipes before you use the machines? Yuk!

I think the gym should provide alcohol wipes free of charge, You have to pay those rip-off prices each month, the least they could do is have a spray bottle by each machine.

It's pretty much impossible for the gym to keep the machines and everything else completely sterile between each use, especially when so many people use them. So yes, it is somewhat your responsibility. Anyway, compared to the gyms I've visited back east, the chain gyms in Portland are clean enough to eat off the floor (I work out at Bally's here but have been to 24 hour a few times). Andrew

Hey Justin I agree with you, 24 Hour fitness is NASTY with a capital N. Channel 12 did an investigative report at a few 24 Hour Fitness in Portland, and they were shocked at what they found. They found E coli all over those blue mats that people lay on. A word to the wise, avoid those blue mats, they have HUGE amounts of E coli and other other crap on them!!! They found A LOT of other things too but I just caught the tail end of the report. Not only are those places dirty, but the staff working their are all assholes. Seriously, If you're not a blonde with big boobs they want nothing to do with you, so don't ever bother them with a question. Plus I was taking a shower at one of the 24 hour fitness, got out of the shower, walked over to my locker (naked of course, and some man was staring at my junk, while I was walking to my locker! I was about to yell "take a picture it will last longer" but I didn't want to waste my time.
