He's losing me, not that he was my first choice anyway. This wishy-washy stuff is for leftists.

Ha!

Seriously, I think that's a very divisive issue. All other issues considered, it's not likely to deliver a solid winning vote.

-it's been used a few times, along with gay issues

-the costs for said use are high.

A considerable number of people are wary of this, regardless of their personal bent.

IMHO, Romney is testing the waters, trying to learn where the political sweet spot is. Can he still identify GOP and attract a nice chunk of the middle, or not!

Romney is probably the smoothest and best politician of the GOP contenders. Unfortunately, these characteristics tend to overpower real substance a lot of the time. I know he is not leading, but I can see him as the eventual nominee. Not that McCain would even consider it, but might be a winning team due to geographics and just enough differences to hit the masses. On the other hand, Romney-Guiliani (or vice-versa) would never work, and of course Fred Thompson is the wildcard. Heard an audio clip of him today, and man, he DOES sound Presidential. But he's an actor. No way would an actor ever win the Presidency! :-)

Go ahead and run a mormon for president. He's my top choice for the GOP nomination.

This is proof positive that the pro-life movement is indeed a DEAD end stance for any candidate at this point. A far majority of Americans do not feel abortion should be illegal, so those that advocate the pro-life stance of making criminals out of pregnant women won't win the votes they need. Simple as that. Hand wring on...

Hey Trixter-If you are indeed a Republican as you insist, then Mitt could be your guy, since he's kind of squishy on the issues.

After all, you being a virtually self-described milquetoast moderate should love the guy.

Thanks Herb!
Coming from a guy who loved a left leaning President (Nixon) so much.

Our 37th president, left leaning?

Man, that hurts.

There's a problem.

Our esteemed 37th President was not left leaning.

He prosecuted the pinko commie, Alger Hiss.

Mr. Nixon also stood toe-to-toe against:

*The communist Vietnamese
*The communist Chinese
*The communist Russians
*The communist Fidel Castro
*The communist East Germans

I think you'd have a hard time convincing anyone that RN was left-leaning.

Actually, President Nixon had a few views that could be considered left. He recognized china and arranged for them to have the UN Veto, instead of nationalist China.

He greatly expanded welfare programs.

As for Mr Romney, he is simply saying what most conservaties have said, the matter of abortion should be up to individual states, as its not addressed in the constitution.

President Nixon was a very complicated man, but he recognized he was elected to do what he thought best, not what opinion polls said he should do.

So, if most conservatives beleive that the matter of abortion should be left up to individual states, meaning the President would have basically nothing to do with it, why in the heck do conservatives continue to bring up the issue in reference to PRESIDENTIAL candidates?

Because its going to take a constitutional amendment to overide what the courts have done.

And a president can help get a constitutional amendment through congress and the states.

"Because its going to take a constitutional amendment to overide what the courts have done."

Which part of the Constitution would need to be changed?

Since the courts are ignoring states rights, the constitution needs to be explicitly changed to tell the courts its uo to the states.
