Any of you ever just sit at the mall and people watch? It is fun to do from time to time. I sit there in awe of how far society has progressed and how far we have fallen. You see people running into one another with no "Excuse Me" or nothing, men not opening doors for ladies, groups of kids behaving badly (not just being kids, acting like punks), dropping garbage near the waste basket and not stopping to pick it up, talking loudly on cell phones in public areas (this is a pet peave of mine, I don't give a darn about being in the middle of your conversation, STFU), etc. etc.

I do believe I have crossed the line of acceptance to a little more judgemental and even at times cynical. I used to be willing to give someone in need the shirt off of my back, but these days I would just as soon keep my shirt!

Anyway, it seems sad but true that common decency is a forgotten practice. There are still some chilvarous types who feel the need to practice these forgotten skills and to those who do, GOOD FOR YOU, and for those who do not, SHAME ON YOU!

You guys ever see the commercial were one person does something nice for another, then that person does the same, and so on until it comes full circle and someone does something nice for that first person? Well I am a believer in "Karma" and that what you do will come back to you in kind. Do something nice and you may have something nice done for you and if you do something not nice expect that in return as well and usually the not nice will come back to you even worse!

Rant, Rant.......just play nice people!

There are not any "Mulligans" so try and make everything good on the first swing!

Darktemper, I was down on Hawthorne on Saturday (had to make a Pastaworks run) and I know what you mean.

Besides all the stuff you mentioned above, I enjoy watching all the "contestants" (I firmly believe that there is a "Let's See Who Can Be The Ugliest/Weirdest" contest in full swing).

I saw a guy with a rock pushed thru his earlobe. And in rock, I don't mean a diamond stud. This was a rock crystal that has to be 3/8" to 1/2" on a side and about 3” long.

They are welcome to do that kind of stuff. This is America. But the first thing that pops into my mind is "WHY".

I guarantee that if I was a hiring manager and someone came in looking like that, I don't care how qualified for the job they are, I wouldn't hire them. I might hire them to work in the warehouse or somewhere out of sight of the customers.

That may be narrow minded and possibly even illegal (I'd never admit to them that was the reason they didn't get the job) but those are my views.

That's my rant! Back to your original topic.

I do enjoy watching people though!

Skybill, on Hawthorne YOU may have been "watched" as one of the those weirdos with no piercings and no tattoos! Wow, look at that plain guy, he's probably a cop!

You'd be foolish not to hire people based solely on how they look. You have to consider who your customers are. If they are other people who have piercings and tattoos, your best bet is to hire people just like that, too. Even so, if you run a business on Hawthorne, even the "normal" people who shop there will be used to seeing people of all different appearances and less likely to be put off by them.

Andrew, Yeah, I was going to mention that but forgot. If a business catered to that kind of clientele, you'd almost have to hire people who looked like that.

It can be crazy fun people watching especially when they are unaware of it. I am reminded of a time when my kids were put in a position to watch the driver of a Ford Explorer, we were in his blind spot, he was digging for Gold then ate the so called nuggets! Ewwwwwww is what I heard from the back seat. When they told me I slowly moved past him and the kids gave him a "I think i'm gonna throw up look"! People really do some stupid stuff either intentionally or are just not cognizant of the fact that people are looking or they just don't give a rip!

I really try not to judge people on how they look, when hiring, as long as they wear clean clothes, that cover up the important parts.

But oh, its so hard at times, IO had a guy interview last week, that had a piercing about everywhere I could see, and he started all his sentences with "man".

I did hire a youn lady a few weeks ago, she had several piercings, and wore black nylons with large holes.

She lasted about 2 weeks, before telling me "this job is so hard". All she had to do was read stock requistions, look the location up on a computer, then put it on a cart, and show up for work by 8:30.

One of these days i'm gonna tape the old VHS-C camcorder and set it on my dash and record stupid drivers. It is small and compact as to not block my view and has a remote so I will not have to fiddle with the camera and get distracted from driving. Just hit the little record button and we are set. Who knows, maybe one day you'll see me on AFV winning 10 grand for my efforts!

I'll take it. I would like to know how many hours per week, and while not important, the pay rate, as it will help me prepare a budget. Where would be nice to know as well.

How soon do you need me to start? I can wear black nylons with holes in them if it is a job requirement, but would prefer regular socks.

Don't think I'm kidding...........
