According to the papers Vick will be pleading guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges. What really makes me MAD is that the offense is punishable up to five years in prison, although federal sentencing guidelines most likely call for less. WTF???? the 27-year-old quarterback participated in executing at least eight underperforming dogs by various means, including drowning and hanging. I hope this guy rots in hell! What he did is inexcusable to these poor dogs! As a dog lover, Im sick to my stomach. This bastard should get life in prison!

If the reports of the possible RICO charges come to light, he could hopefully spend much more time in prison. I know it's callused and not PC to hope ill will on someone, but that ass hole, lost all his rights to any sympathy, along with all his L.A. privileges (I spoke with Marcellus about this earlier)

Dog fighting, cock fighting, bull fighting are all blood sports. I admit, i am inconsistant, because I see nothing wrong with hunting, or fishing, both of which can cause suffering to animals.

No, Pete was banned for betting on baseball. Gambeling by itself isnt against most major sportsw rules. As I said before Michael Jordan regularly visited casinos and gambled. Now I agree he should be banned from football, but if his plea deal is for a misdomenar(sp), I think it will be difficult to enforce a lifetime ban.

Nike stalled, then finally caved after initially pulling a "wait and see" attitude, and suspended him and all new shoe sales, after Reebok and Topps cards had already dropped him due to public outrage and "coincidentally" just mere days before PETA's announced picketing of all Niketowns. Of course, I'm guessing the price immediatly jumped on all Vick eBay items. "Sick Bastards" is exactly right. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19999259/

Vick will spend the next 18 months in the Stars and Bars Hotel being the prison bitch. In football terms, he's going to be going in as a tight end and coming out a wide receiver, if you know what I mean. Nwokie - this is different than hunting or fishing for sustinence. This is purely and solely out of human greed and desire ... I'm sorry, but soaking a dog in water then tying it to jumper cables? Dropping it on the ground until it dies? Anyone worth their salt who hunts and fishes has a great respect for their craft and treats it as such. They SELECTIVELY choose and take their prey, all within the spirit and word of the law. Anyone who doesn't do that isn't truly an outdoorsman. Michael Vick didn't selectively choose and take his prey here, he killed defenseless dogs because they didn't make him money, they didn't perform to the brutal standards that he expected in an act that is against all humanity. I look at my dog right now ... and if someone even attempted to do ANY of these acts on my dog, I would blow their heads off. No questions asked.

That's how I feel about it. Hunting is something many creatures do --including us. Doing it for sport, at least from my perspective, does include all the not so sporty things. Consume the prey as completely as is possible. Anything else is failure to respect the way of things. Also leave the scene better than you found it. Animals are not here for that kind of entertainment. Nothing is.

I personally see no difference between bull fighting and dog fighting. They're both gruesome sports that involve the death and maiming of animals for the enjoyment of an audience. I'm not a fan of hunting either. When I see a deer in the wild, the last thing I would want to do is kill it.

Rodeos are cool. I love to see the bull win. Not that I would ever pay to go to one, but I like watching the highlights on the news when the rider gets gored. Anybody that is stupid enough to sit on the back of an animal and then let someone put a clamp on its balls, deserves whatever they get! I don't support bull fighting either. A waste of time and effort and not so good for the bull! I have no issue with hunting IF you are actually going to eat the animal. I don't hunt deer because I'm not a big fan of venison. But Elk, Mmmmmm. Good!

Deer hunting in Pennsylvania...... 1.Send thousands of people into the woods with guns. 2.wait for deer to run out other side onto a road. 3.hit them with car. as for Michael Vick....WHY? too much money, and too bored off the field. looking for violence and excitement. NO JAIL TIME. Instead how about this? 20,000 hours supervised community service, he pays for the supervision. The time will be spent at animal shelters, where he will feed clean and care for,as well as, promote the adoption neutering and spaying of these animals. In addition, one million dollars fine to be donated to organizations devoted to above. He may resume his football career after the completion of community service hours. (do the math.) Prison time and a fine payable to the guv'mint teaches no lesson as far as punishment. Do the crime, then punishment should include making it right.

Justin asked the ultimate question I would PAY to hear an answer from Vick on; "Im confused of what would draw Michael Vick into these dog fights. Money??? Or does he just get off on torturing animals???" He shouldn't get any more or less time or fine or whatever than whatever other poeple get for doing this. In the court system. The NFL has it's own rules, he knew the deal or he would be saying there isn't a problem. He knew there was. Busted. See ya.

Before this thread degenerates into another Bush thread, a Washington Post editorial brings up a point that animals destined for human consumption are abused daily on farms and in slaughter houses. Those of us who eat meat support the worst kinds of cruelty to animals just as much as those who view and support animal fights.

Our idea of proper treatment of animals is probably not zapping them with a high powered cattle prod. But as this is a business of raising and selling meat, this is just business as usual. Let's look at a cornish chicken. It is stuffed into a cage pretty much it's entire life, force fed, hauled off, beheaded and shredded, all for our dining pleasure. Meat is Meat and is treated as such. What, you want they should treat em like pets cause they ain't. Now if some dude is sexually abusing them or just flat using completely cruel and inhumane practices, then he should be punished. "Eat Red Meat" BTW...I raise my own cattle and do treat them very well up until the time when the 30/30 dispatches them into my freezer.

This is utterly brilliant! Vick cards chewed by dogs are on eBay By BRIAN CHARLTON, Associated Press writer August 24, 2007 Take some trading cards picturing a disgraced NFL superstar. Add some dog slobber and teethmarks. What do you get? The most valuable Michael Vick cards — by far — on eBay, that's what. Collector Rochelle Steffen of Cape Girardeau, Mo., gave every Vick card she owned to her dogs and let them go to town on the images of the Atlanta Falcons quarterback who is scheduled to plead guilty to a federal dogfighting charge Monday. Once Monte, her 6-year-old Weimaraner, and Roxie, her Great Dane puppy, were done worrying them, nearly two dozen $1-$10 cards were crumpled, crimped, chewed, torn and generally in a sorry state. Some even had corners missing. As of Thursday evening, the highest bid on the lot of 22 cards had risen to $455 and more than 2,000 people had viewed the posting. Seventy-seven people already have bid on the auction, which ends Sunday. The next-most expensive Vick cards — well-preserved specimens from his rookie year — were going for less than half the price of the gnawed ones. "If I would have had some of his super-duper ones, they would have been right in the mix too," Steffen said Thursday. She plans to donate the winning bid money to the Humane Society of the bidder's choice." http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=20070824/ap_on_sp_fo_ne/fbn_vick_chewed_ca rds&prov=ap&type=lgns LOT OF falcons michael vick CARDS CHEWED ON BY MY DOG Current bid: $3,450.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/LOT-OF-falcons-michael-vick-CARDS-CHEWED-ON-BY-MY-DOG_W0QQitemZ200145651449QQihZ010QQcategoryZ215QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem What is most amazing is that this has started a small revolution on eBay! Chewed up Michael Vick cards sell for $7,400 online, proceeds to go to Humane Society By BRIAN CHARLTON, Associated Press Writer August 29, 2007 KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The woman who paid $7,400 on eBay for 22 Michael Vick football cards, chewed up and slobbered on by two Missouri dogs, acknowledges she hadn't heard of the star football player before he was indicted for dogfighting. But Laura Norton-Dye, 40, of Cape Girardeau, wanted to send the message that local animal shelters need help -- and she challenged Vick to donate money himself. Norton-Dye, who outbid 30 others, lives in the town where the auction originated and has requested the money be donated to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri and to Safe Harbor, a local animal sanctuary. Norton-Dye, who has incurable gastrointestinal carcinoid cancer, said she has a big heart for animals. "I really think this was the right thing to do," said Norton, a former teacher. "This is one way I thought I could make a difference." ADVERTISEMENT The success of the auction created a craze of more than 25 other postings this week offering torn-up cards featuring the disgraced NFL superstar, most also promising to donate the money to local animal shelters. But so far, the original post from Rochelle Steffen, of Cape Girardeau, has been the only auction to attract droves of bidders. Steffen gave Monte, her 6-year-old Weimaraner, and Roxie, her Great Dane puppy, every Vick card she owned to destroy. The cards, worth $1 to $10 apiece, were crumpled, crimped, chewed, torn and generally in a sorry state. Some even had corners missing. "When I started this I only expected to get $100 for a local shelter," Steffen told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "But it's received so much attention. It's for such a good cause that jumps every boundary." Steffen, 31, said she has been overwhelmed with positive responses, including from people who say her auction inspired them to donate money to animal shelters. The Humane Society of the United States has seen a large spike in donations since Vick was indicted on federal dogfighting charges last month, said Ann Chynoweth, director of the society's Animal Cruelty and Fighting Campaign. "Americans love football, but they love dogs even more," she said. The backlash against Vick seemed to grow this week as he apologized after entering a guilty plea to a federal dogfighting charge in Richmond, Va. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 10. The gnawed cards were by far the most expensive Vick items on eBay, with well-preserved rookie cards, autographed jerseys and other collectibles selling for far less. "The thought of these cards selling for $7,000 underscores how much this situation with Michael Vick has really captivated Americans," said Tracy Hackler, associated publisher of Beckett Media, the Dallas-based publisher of several card collecting magazines. Other ads on eBay offered cards chomped on by a pit bull puppy from Indianapolis named Diesel and a Cadillac, Mich., dog named Freak, among others. Another ad offered a jersey torn up by a yellow lab named Trixie from Harker Heights, Texas. Another posting offered the services of a Destin, Fla., dog named Peggy Sue, saying she will damage mint-condition Vick cards. The ad said proceeds would go to the Canine Rescue and Rehabilitation. The high bid was $188.27 Wednesday afternoon. While Vick was once considered by collectors as having some of the most-sought after memorabilia, the value of his autographs, cards and other collectibles have dramatically dipped, Hackler said. Even his 2001 SP Authentic rookie card, once valued at more than $1,000, is now being traded at $285 to $400, he said. The Atlanta Humane Society says some former Vick fans have sent jerseys, often accompanied by financial contributions. Other branches of the Humane Society have said they will take donated Vick items to resell on eBay. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-vick-chewedcards&prov=ap&type=lgns
