I was in Salem earlier today and while tuning around the FM dial I heard "Mike-FM" on 93.7. The signal faded in and out (While parked) and was strong at times. At one point the station faded out and was replaced very briefly with another station before Mike came back in. The format seemed to be Hot AC. Does anyone know where "Mike-FM" is located?

KTMT's transmitter is even further away. It's on Mount Ashland which is just a few miles from the California border. KTMT's power is just 31KW but Mt. Ashland is 7,533 feet. KTMT's HAAT is 1409 meters with 47 meters above ground. That's a pretty good catch!

If you notice on MIKE FM, not only do they have a morning show, BUT they also have a mid-day host and an afternoon host. Now my question is, are the jocks live??? If they are, than I'm pretty damn impressed already. Charlie should take note.

Here is what 93.7 Mike Fm is saying about their playlist

About Mike

Hit driven, music intensive format that includes some 1,000 songs, versus the traditional 250 that most radio stations play. The station’s diverse play list includes a combination of songs from the past three decades.”

I thought KTMT might be grandfathered, based on the antenna height given but the FCC shows it as 980 meters HAAT, which comes out right. This reminds me: I once had a lengthy discussion on another board about the term HAAT or Height of Antenna above Average Terrain. Some people were using the term AHAAT for Antenna Height Above Average Terrain and gave me the text equivalent of looking at me like I was from Mars to suggest otherwise. Where anyone came up with this, let alone multiple posters, I have no idea but I'd certainly never heard the term before. The whole thing reminded me of when I was in Social Studies class and the teacher announced that Shanghai was the largest city in China. A while later, he asked the class for the largest city in China. I immediately raised my hand, said Shanghai and the rest of the class looked at me as the teacher said it was Peking! Sometime later, I heard on radio or TV that Shanghai was indeed the largest city in China. Back to the point, has anyone else heard of AHAAT?

Thanks for the info on Mike in Medford.

I recently got back from a two week vacation to Ontario Canada. A little town called Magnetawan, which is about 200 miles north of Toronto. My in-laws have a cabin there. I took a Sagean 909 with me for some dx'ing.
On the FM band there was about a half a dozen stations I could receive that called themselves "Moose", most having an AC or Hot AC format. There were two Classic Rock stations using "Fox".
Nobody using "Wolf" though.
One evening just before a thunderstorm hit, the FM band opened up and I was able to receive a Country station from New York.
On the AM band, lots of activity at night. There are no longer any stations on AM north of Toronto.
I didn't hear anything from the west coast, but I wasn't using anything other than the 909's internal antenna either.

Semoochie - I've heard AHAAT used before, but it's certainly *not* widespread. In my experience (even though I'm no engineer---I just befriend them!) HAAT is the preferred form...Always saw it used in facilities descriptions in Broadcasting's chronicle of radio station sales in the back of the magazine since the 70s.

That has certainly been my experience also. What was strange about the whole thing is that they acted as if they'd never heard my term before and made it seem like their's was common knowledge and in common use and mine was simply wrong! It was a very odd feeling.

The FCC always refers to Antenna Height Above Average Terrain (HAAT).

Aha... It's a definition thing! Thanks, Kq4...

When reading the term, often the voice in my head would simply say "hat"... I just automatically understood it to mean a reference to the antenna...

If you had actually stopped to read the posts instead of just running a post & run marathon on every thread you would have found the answer to your question.

It's not all bad. The one thread missed was the Boss Radio one, which is now at the bottom where it belongs.
