I'm shocked to report that one of my broadcast buddies "Johnny Venture" has died, as reported in todays Oregonian Obits:
______________________________________________________________

John T. Park died August 3, 2007 at age 48. Toby J. Park was born December 18, 1958 in Portland. As an adult he changed his name legally to John T. Park. A graduate of Madison High School, he was a disc jockey for KISN radio and then self-employed.

Survivors include his parents Jerry and Janet; and brother, Todd. Remembrances to the Oregon Humane Society. Arrangements by Oregon Cremation.
__________________________________________________________

Johnny Venture was hired in 1988 by PD Danny Davis and worked weekends on Kisn AM-FM through the early 90's. Depending on the shifts, I would follow him on air or vice versa. He was a great guy to work with and had a deep rich voice. I remember him saying he had worked for KCNR-FM earlier.

The first night John was on Kisn, I was on the air before him and he could decide what name to use on the radio. One name was Johnny Venture but he was a little apprehensive to use it, thinking it was a little weird. I egged him on and he used it.

He was later Kisn-FM Production Director and produced the first sweepers I used on my annual Christmas Shows for years. 48 is just to young to die!

Johnny we'll miss ya.....

Its amazing what you find hiding in the dark corners of radio stations...here is a link to a picture of John Park (Johnny Venture) with former KGW personality Dave Tribel (Dave Allen)that surfaced here at KBPS. This was taken in the old office studio above the Benson High School auditorium. We think it was taken in 1976.

Think you're right on the year, Bill...I was a transmitter operator for a few months at KBPS then when I was between gigs, and remember them both.

My prayers to John's family and friends...
