I completely agree with Deane.

Cheney is one smart mo-fo. Bad ass smart actually.

The problem with Cheney --and most of this administration and their hacks, is not smarts. Most all of them have plenty of those.

The problem is their value judgments. They are Republicans first. They also show signs of confusing conviction with truth --their personal highest authority trumps the law. This compartmentalization, having established itself in their reasoning then opens the door for "ends justify the means" kind of thinking.

If they were say, Americans first, a lot of the crap we see right now would not be so easily justified.

Truth is, if they were a bit dumber they would either:

-not have accumulated the level of power necessary for this shit

-might be more willing to live by rule of law, fearing the consequenses

-see a higher degree of tolerance for others and the process as a whole.

If one is smart enough to achieve what they have, there remains only one root cause:

they lack the strength of character necessary to serve in the public interest.

It's really easy to think up smart ways to exploit others, game the system, etc...

It's a lot harder to know those things are possible and not do them because they harm others.

Put another way: cheating is not smart, it's just easy --lazy, self serving, dishonorable, unethical, etc...

I think where people become confused is that Cheney was giving his true opinion in the video which was made at an earlier time. In the case of the recent Iraq war, he was following the program of the Commander-in-Chief like a good soldier. Unfortunately, it ends up reflecting badly on him.

So Deane, when Bush asked Cheney in 2002 whether we should invade Iraq, what do you think was Cheney's reply? Did he restate his thoughts from the video, or did he promote invasion?

Mr. Cheney is working hard to keep us safer from terror.

The left is soft on terror, so naturally they hate the guy.

Neville Chamberlain is the guy of the appeasement left.

God bless Dick Cheney.

Cheney is a lying liar. "Last throes" indeed. I shall spit on his grave if it is ever disclosed.

Well, uh, "think" is the operative word there.

(Not that you'd probably try it, since it's a controlled substance for WPE fans)

I'm positive he's got a chemical imbalance of some kind. Just listen to the guy. When he speaks, the room gets darker.

Hilarious.

And the Clintonistas went crazy when this kind of stuff was said about their guy.

I'm hoping Mr. Cheney is named for a Supreme Court position. He is truly a great American.

Na, Mr Cheney is too old to be on the court, he would only serve a few years, we need young conservatives that can serve 25-30 years on the court.

I think Cheney could do some work for gay rights to ensure that his daughter isn't treated like a second class citizen, rather than support sexuality based discrimination and hatred.

That's what a REAL father would do.

Two gays not being allowed to marry would be one right they don't have, among many. That's the second dumbest post of the day.

"I think Cheney could do some work for gay rights to ensure that his daughter isn't treated like a second class citizen, rather than support sexuality based discrimination and hatred."

I WILL give Dick Cheney credit in that he has come out publicly against his boss's desire to write hatred and bigotry towards gays in the Constitution, and has publicly stated that he supports gay rights. It's too bad that it takes having a gay person close to you in your life to wake up and treat these people like the freakin' humans they are.
