Having him on 750 to do a two hour sports show is going to be really good stuff and great for the market profile. Curious to see if Canzano will be as opinionated on the air with the Blazers as he is in print and this is going to sort of kind of hurt The Fans ratings. Not sure how much loyalty that was on Canzanos part but this is good for the radio market.

john canzano should have been given the gig at kfxx instead of Issac ropp and there would be no need for this question,Canzano rocks!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure KXL went big to get Canzano. Canzano went on Courtside Live and Lars and promised a Hoops Family Hour which was hilarious.

Canzano would have been a nice addition to the Fan if they had worked him into a regular shift. I like what I have heard though I don't agree with some of what he says, that is what makes it interesting at least for me. Though some of the KFXX guys try to hard to be controversial if you want to call it that I think Suke is the most natural of the bunch. KFXX missed out on adding to their arsenal. I wasn't here when Cowherd was in the PNW, does anyone here know if he was popular locally? If he wasn't then why carry him if you can find a decent talent for the AM shift.. Just a thought while commenting on Canzano.

Radio921 great thought. I think a strictly local show with a really sharp personality would sing ratingswise in Portland. I don't know if KFXX missed out or they were outbid by KXL for Canzanos services. I have to think hes getting six figures for this show he's scertainly worth it. I can't see the brass at KFXX who put Canzano on the air in the first place letting him go without a fight. KFXX should have not let this happen. Hes going to crush them head to head in the 6-7 p.m. hour no matter how they spin it. I agree on Suke hes not awful and I think what makes Canzano so good is not his column or even that hes a good reporter but that hes so natural on the air.

I think that the best days for the Fan were when "The Herd" was local. Even folks who did not follow sports closely liked Colin. I do not have the numbers in front of me, but something tells me you do not get a national gig by being an immensely talented bust. Cowherd made everyone there -- and at KGW -- work just a little harder, and it was obvious when he left.

I like Canzano for being so blunt about the Trailblazers. He deserves credit for putting a fire under the chairs of management at One Center Court. I wonder if he will mellow, or continue to keep the flame? He can certainly take a bow for reflecting the views of tens of thousands of fans, asking tough questions and keeping the Blazers pissed off until they cleaned house.

Unfortunately, like John, many of the best voices on the Fan have been shown the door or found it on their own. I agree that Suke is one of the folks that shows respect for the games, the athletes and our city. He also loves sports and it shows. I like him, but with Dan Patrick gone, my listening is limited almost exclusively to Mariner broadcasts and Bob Valvano on the weekends.

The Fan is in a downward spiral even though they claim numbers are good. Ropp is easily the worst host they've ever had. He doesn't come up with any original thoughts (always steals from the Oregonian). He hasn't broken a single story since he's been on the air. He simply isn't relevant. Suke is just a plain old number two. At least Kenny Vance was funny, intelligent, and had major sources. Suke's idea of funny is fifth grade fart jokes. Those who listen do so because there's no alternative. The Fan is minor league. Why would Canzano want to stay ?

Do you think Canzano was torn between staying at The Fan and going to KXL??? You're right about the numbers at the fan they're skewing the hell out of them and KFXX has to be shitting when it comes to going head to head with Canzano.

By the way I couldn't stand Dan Patrick and never have felt he was that good at all. I have shows in other markets that were better. Also I feel there is an opportunity to put someone local during that timeslot. I guess there is still an opportunity.

i would say Vance is the most sourced character portland sports radio has ever had ,light years beyond Furness,Do you think KFXX will bring in some one along the likes of Dwight Jaynes to "fill" the canzano spot???? Camzano would have been the guy to fill the patrick slot in the afternoon

Dwight Jaynes works for Pamplin at the Tribune. I seriously doubt they'd also let him work for the competition.

Anyone else remember his talk shows on KPAM? IIRC, they were pulled for low ratings, and the PD at the time wanted a general topic talk show in the slot (what he originally did), not a sports talk show. Some on here questioned how having a third sports talk show in the timeslot in the market was going to work (one being on 910 The Fan, the other on 620 The Buzz).

Amante212,
NO WAY Canzano is getting 6 figures from KXL for a 2 hour daily show.

I agree with many of you, K.Vance was great. I believe he is now selling homes or doing mortgage loans here locally.

I was thinking the same thing--Kenny Vance went off and turned realtor in Vancouver WA after his Fan stint. And yes, he was really great on the radio.

I've got it!
A new format called: "Real Estate Radio!"
The slogan would be something like: "You liked them on the air before, now buy real estate from them!"
Personalities could be Kenny Vance, Bill Jackson, etc.
Seriously, they could do talk or music or whatever for a few hours a day/week/etc., talk about what they currently list, take listener calls for inquiries, and get you to buy the properties... all on the air! Someone else mentioned that there's so many folks out there doing real estate, that they have to stand out somehow... why not with a radio show on an all real-estate station?!

Maybe he's getting paid 6 figures to write nice things about his new boss and the Blazers.

If he is getting paid to write nice things about the blazers, he ain't doing a good job. His column late last week called Paul Allen an idiot. If he's getting 100k or 80k its good for the whole lot of us I think. Good for him.

KXL program guide shows this new show as 3 hours some nights...Looks like two local DUCKs shows plus the Sports Rap from the Ducks....so sports from 6-9 weeknights.....Sounds like a great plan...

Anyone else listen to the first show last night? Thoughts?

Jay Allen is billed as the co-host.

I thought it sounded fine and John did a good job of filling two hours. It sounded pretty smooth in that respect.

I wouldn't call it riveting radio, but it was only the first show.

The shows on Wednesday and Friday were stellar. Sorry, I know its late but I'm running the board overnight. Really good radio that is really forward moving. Jerry Glanville called in on Friday after hearing Canzano rant about players who don't care about losing. Can you imagine that? Glanville was listening to the show in his own time.
