Wednesday's "USA Today" newspaper Business section under its "USA Today Snapshots" featured "Bloggiest Cities". Posts per 100,000 residents in March & April 2007. Source: Outsidein.com [1.] 89 Boston [2.] 88 Philadelphia [3.] 53 Pittsburgh [4.] 51 Washington D.C. [5.] 49 Portland Ore. What does this say about Portland? Are we just a little more geeky than Seattle, San Francisco or Los Angeles? Also note Portland is the only west coast city in the top 5.

I used to have a Blog but it never really seemed to take off........if you want to see what little is there check out http://bwbmx.blogspot.com/ and also note the rather "subtle" reference to BMX Subculture in Oregon I used there!! ;o) I dunnow......maybe Blogs just aren't for everyone. Side effects may include: headache, frustration if you use dial-up and an increased draw to real-time discussion forums like PDX Radio. Ask your doctor or computer consultant if Blogging is right for you! ;o) (Who knows....maybe I might just give it another shot one of these days........)

Rain is a total factor. On bad days, where being outside is not the best, blogging happens more frequently --at least it does for me.

Blogs aren't my favorite, I much prefer message boards. Most of them are someone's opinion on something (even if they claim to be news-oriented), and if you get a decent sized community going, it can be hard to discuss current breaking events if the owner/operator of the blog is away, or isn't interested in blogging on the issue. BTW Motozak - everything seems slow in dialup. It's not bad though... it makes you think about what you're doing online, and if it's worth it. I would rather use it and pick from any number of companies then subscribe to the 'phone co. vs. cable co.' "choice" scam. That, and I'm paying $7.95/mo.

"BTW Motozak - everything seems slow in dialup. It's not bad though... it makes you think about what you're doing online, and if it's worth it." Definately. Newflyer, are you sure you aren't my twin? *laughs* It does take a while for the "Add Post" thing on Blogspot to come up (I usually only run about 48K on a decent night) which is kind of inefficient in that case, because typically for long articles, like I used to do for reviews on IMDB, or Blog entries (had that caught on--there IS still a chance tho) I write everything up a couple nights before I am ready to post. "I would rather use it and pick from any number of companies than subscribe to the 'phone co. vs. cable co.' "choice" scam. That, and I'm paying $7.95/mo." Hey, for People's PC at $6/month on a computer I built myself who am I to complain? I really don't stream audio or video too much--I have a satellite receiver for that. And I don't download music either--I record it all myself. (There's something mystical about going to a record shoppe that the Internet is completely devoid of.......) Receiving Podcasts is feasible (note I don't have an Apple I-Pod, rather several CD players that read MPEG1L3 audio) as I can set it to download, go off and have dinner somewhere, and come back to find the file sitting right there on my desktop! So dialup is dated (and rather understated nowdays) but still practcal. I have a somewhat modern (2001-model IBM Thinkpad)laptop system and a wireless network PCMCIA card my Dad gave me for my Birthday earlier this year but really I don't dare use it on the "internet access cloud" over PDX. Too vulnerable, too much risk of the city trying to snoop on my computer........ (Might make some decent fodder for a good "2600" article tho!!) Maybe if--and only IF--DSL lines get as common and venerable as dialup and have a price to match (wishful thinking I know) I might consider it, but for now I'd practically have to win Megabucks' jackpot just to afford one month!!!
