When diagnosed a year and a half ago or so, Rick told me it had been more than 20 years since he had had a cigarette.

Rick was a great anchor, a great reporter and did editorials and production work at KATU as his career shifted. He had a great laugh, a wonderful smile and was liked by absolutely everybody. Rick cared. KATU was a wonderful place in the 60s and 70s and 80s when Rick was there. I'm glad I had the opportunity to work with him and be his friend.

Rick Meyers briefly did a weekend talk show for KKEY. I believe it was while he was still at KATU. Welcome aboard, Paul; it's been a long time!

I met Rick Meyers back in 1974 when he taught a course on Broadcast Journalism during the Ralph Rogers days at MHCC.. After class I asked him how I could get my own TV show (Wow I was a legend in my own mind). He told me how he started, get a radio job in a small market right out of college. Then just aim for the skies. He made bowties a cool thing. Miss him.

Rick was one of the best, no doubt about it. He also did a fine job on the weekend talk show. Above all, as is apparent here, he was a great guy.

Rick was very proud showing his picture taken with Senator Robert F. Kennedy when RFK was here campaigning for the Oregon Primary in 1968. Clean Gene may have won, but Rick got a fabulous picture.
