Last at "The Boss" in Newport. (see historical PDX radio thread titled, "Come Work For the Boss".

I also have some old Leonard on cassette, plus London and Engleman on KYTE) and my next project is to digitize. As soon as I have a spare moment!

Thanks for the info! That guy has been all over the place! I met him back in the early '90s when he was at KSLM, he was a super guy! I hope he is doing well!

I sure had fun working with Ron. I worked production at KYTE and Ron was my favorite voice for concert and other music spots. He's perfect for those! I remember when the Four Tops were in town (sadly, not at the Civic or the MC, but at the Hayloft Tavern in Vancouver) and we two Motown fanatics got to do the spots. I think I still have those. I'll see about getting them posted.

I worked with Ron at KBZY in Salem in the mid 70's. I remember him sending an aircheck to KCBQ in San Diego for a critique (I think the PD was Gerry Cagle) and they called back with a job offer. I've never seen anyone with as much energy on the air. You'd get worn out just watching him work.

Ron did have the longest headphone cord at KYTE. He had a 25 foot headphone cord so he could run out of the control room while screaming his name.

BTW, here's a new aircheck site. No Portland airchecks on there yet, but there is a Andy Barber (former KYTE jock) Tulsa aircheck on there.

For those who like scoped airchecks, Dan has this one of Ron, and several other gems available in RealAudio streaming on his PDX History page.

KCBQ was notorious for screamers when they offered Ron a gig (did he take it?). Another Portland screamer, "Dancin'" Danny Wright, worked at KCBQ prior to coming to KMJK.

Thank you, Scott, for posting this unscoped.

I'm pretty sure Ron came to KYTE directly from KCBQ, where I believe he was a part-timer.

Is he the same "Screamin' Ron" who was at KISN in the 60s (and more recently on 97.1, pre-Charlie's, for a short while a few years ago??)

Curious.........

Ron spent some time at the 97.1 incarnation of KISN, but I don't think he's old enough to have worked at the Mighty 91 in the sixties.

Ron Leonard hosting and Bob Brooks doing those image and promo liners, music from '78 and Im thinkin' I could "down" that unscoped aircheck on my memory stick and listen to it on the way to and from work every morning and afternoon. Get my heart started , better than coffee, keeps the old age wrinkles away.

Wouldnt it be a "gas" if in DJ heaven everyone had a 'gig' at thier format and venue of choice and there were lots of souls to listen to zillions of channels all the time.

Some of that 78' CHR music is on our 'super hits' station over here, BUT NO one like those guys for presentation of the format around here in a 250 mile radius of the Tri-Cities. Thats for damn sure !
