Myspace has found more than 29,000 registered sex offenders with profiles on myspace. This was more than four times the number cited by the company two months ago. And these are just the ones they have found, imagine how many more of the sicko's are on Myspace looking for their victims. My son has a myspace page and a majority of the mail he gets are from fake imposter profile's, usually showing some busty bimbo with very little clothes on, wanting him to accept them. Who are these freaks of nature???

I think Myspace does a poor job of filtering all the spam mail out. I realize they have millions of people on the website, but it is ridiculous when 95% of your inbox is spam mail.

Myspace is a once small, but thriving web community that put musicians in touch with potential fans. It grew, grew huge, and became a part of the News Corporation empire. Now, it features a thriving underground of pornographers, escorts and predators. Personally, I look at the community as an adult area. Like many artists, I do have a Myspace page for my creations, but I do my part by filtering every person who wants to be a "friend" on my list. I will not "befriend" minors unless they are sincere genius artist geek types in college. Anyone who seems even remotely sketchy is refused. I also periodically check in on the folks I do not know personally to see they have not been hijacked, or are some sort of front. All of this is sad really, because this was -- and in many ways still is -- a really great networking idea for all kinds of artists. It still boasts many folks -- from filmmakers to jugbands to sculptors to comedians to disc jockeys -- who are not creepy.

It's really too bad about that part of it. I've blocked myspace for quite some time now. Could be fixed though. If enough artists went somewhere else, they could do the same things they are now, and not be associated with a cesspool. Virii, pr0n, predators, it's all that we are not to happy about in one easy to consume package. Murdock is proud.

I view Myspace as an attempt to build a database of information to sell to marketers. Isn't that what almost every website has ever been about? Oh, let's not forget that it also could be a one-stop info. shop when a political administration wants to arrest someone. I obviously don't have a myspace profile, and don't care to have one, either.
