Drew Carey was named as the new host of The Price of Right this afternoon. Sorry about the headline, he was NOT in the CBS family. I got confused,it was ABC, but still like the choice. Will add comedy to the game show fun. He will be on Letterman tonight.

Well, if CBS means, "currently broadcasting stations" then you were spot on. :0) I kinda like the idea, but I bet it gets a whole lot edgier. I loved the Drew Carey Show, and Bob Barker, so I will check it out.

If you've seen TPIR lately, most of the advertisers are selling diabetes testing supplies and scooters. They must broaden the appeal to survive. Maybe they should have named Katie as new host. I have to wonder how many younger viewers are available middays anymore. The other few surviving game shows moved from daytime to early evening syndication for a reason.

"I have to wonder how many younger viewers are available middays anymore........" Wonder no longer, I have been a TPIR fan since I was but a toddler. This is probably the only benefit to working nights, as Price Is Right is just barely starting as I am waking up in the morning. And my favorite PIR game? Plinko, everybody's favourite, it seems ;o)

Boy, you haven't been paying attention for the last 15 years or so. Ever since Happy Gilmore came out, TPIR got huge in the colleges, more popular than soaps. There's plenty of young viewers out there.

I'll bet they don't watch it regularly though. Going to those things is fun. Watching them on the tube is not quite the same experience. Drew is both set and doomed. He can do TPIR forever, but he's marked now. Of course, he was marked anyway, so maybe not doomed. Who knows? I don't watch the dang thing with or with out Drew.

I like Drew Carey's stand-up stuff and Im happy he now has 2 shows. I think he does sort of look like the late Bill Cullin. I liked Bill hosting. I liked game shows better when I grew up in the 50s early 60s. Johnny Olson and Don Pardo were the announcers for a lot of game shows Pardo was NBC Olson CBS. Don't kmow about ABC. I recall Bob Barker on T or C. On TPIR With Bill Cullin I recall prizes for bidding sometimes droping down from the ceiling above the contestants. I don't recall ever seeing people of any minority group in those years. Groucho had a lot of different people on You Bet Your Life. I recall a lady contestant on the show with tatoos. Also there was a lady contestant named Alice Cooper she sure looked old. Groucho's announcer George Fenimine later had his turn at being a game show host. Show was Surprise Package. Short lived I think.

You don't even have to attend a taping... just watch the show. Sometimes it looks like most of the audience is in college. Sometimes, one of them will not only make it as a contestant but will also get on stage, where it's announced that they're on their high school senior trip! (I heard they're allowed on the show as long as their 18.)

Carey is a genius. Game shows are so easy and quick to produce that he can knock of a whole month of TPIR in a week, and probably a whole season of the other show in another week, leaving plenty of time for standup or improv tours, etc. Plus he can work this job until he's ready to retire...the guy is already 49 after all...
