Ok, folks. During this lull, why not take some time to beef up your Bull Shit and manipulation detectors? We know it's gonna get really deep pretty much everywhere soon. Now is a perfect time to sharpen your sword and be ready for the barrage of crap to come.

(and there will be crap, it will come from everywhere)

PROPAGANDA -- The game. Damn cool. I'll be ordering one of these in the near future. Good for all ages. Man, just wait until the teens call me on a manipulation technique... no pain, no gain right? I think we are gonna play this, then go through some commercials, reality TV and our local snoozecast.

The meat of the game can be found here:

http://www.pnl-nlp.org/download/propaganda/page1.htm

This has gotta be the number one of these demonstrated here, by all of us at one time or another:

quote:

3. Ad Hominem

Example: Smith: "This town needs more efficient and vigorous police protection. Some on the police force should be retired and some should be fired".

Jones: "Absolutely not. And who are you to talk about improving our police protection? As I recall, 30 years ago you did time for forgery".

Meaning: Instead of attacking your proposition, your opponent directs his argument against you as a person. Although a person’s past record is something one should take into consideration, it should not be one’s sole basis for judging an argument.

The Ad Hominem attack often takes the form of discounting a proposition by attributing prejudice or bias to its supporters. But what motivates is to believe as we do, say what we say, is one thing. The truth or falsity, validity or invalidity, of what we say is another. It is possible to be prejudiced but right

Another form of Ad Hominem is charging your opponent with the inconsistency of not living up to what he advocates.

If you are not into the game, consider reading through the text linked. You are gonna see these played out here and elsewhere over and over. Having a firm grasp of these techniques will improve both your quality of overall thinking and discussion. We may find it improves our group significantly as well.

***Please read this twice. If you are still pissed, or thinking badly of this topic, read it again until you just aren't. E-mail me if you have to.

This is not a target placed on anyone here. Every one of us, does these things. That is not the point. The point is, arming up! Brains are like muscles. When you exercise them regularly, they get bigger.

I find this stuff always interesting. I also find it amazing how often I personally end up tripping over these core matters of form. Enjoy.

Really... get a cup of coffee and enjoy.

Missing kskd, you really need to work on developing your own critical thinking skills.

"DD grow the fuck up and stop asking questions even my four year old knows the answer to."

Is that critical thinking?

DD sez: "Is that critical thinking?"

Based upon your own posts and comments, you're among the last people here that would know what critical thinking is.

Actually, in the context of the discussion at the time, it was! It also wasn't nice, but we've been over that.

I'll say it again:

If I had a do-over on that thread, I would have done things differently. I let you have the last word on that matter, more than once. My comments at that time stand, and that includes the "I'm not sorry..." part DD. I'm really not.

At the time, after letting you rant on / about me for quite some time, I extended an offer to bury the hatchet on that one. It was ignored. That offer was extended again, when you brought it up again. Again ignored. At least you cut back on the ranting. I suppose that's progress.

It's been withdrawn now. It's all over, deal. After this long, and your repeated attempts to just bring this up, seemingly at random, I'm really not sorry. Not at all.

But I'm more than happy to let you, again, have the last word on the matter. Have at it.

Please do get it all out this time. If you need some help, let me know. Just do it, however ugly, you will be better for it. Time to move on DD. Do what it takes to get your closure.

He's never going to stop doing it to you, Missing. Just ignore him when he does it, we all should.
