As I sit here, not sleeping (which is usually the case), I wonder what listening habits others have in the overnight hours. I my self tend to listen to either The Fan or KBPS-AM. KNBR gets an honorable mention as well. K-Hits gets a listen here and there as well.

Lately, I've been listening to the new Phil Hendrie show on KDWN 720. Occasionally, KFIR from Sweet Home breaks in. The new Phil Hendrie show is getting better, and more character voices are being worked in. However, there aren't many callers, which makes me suspect that very few people are listening. On one of the recent KFIR "break-ins," I heard "Nobody" by Silvia. It has probably been 24 years since I last heard that song!!! "Your 'Nobody' called today. She hanged up when I asked her name..."

Well, the upside is always being able to catch the show! I enjoy KBPS often at night. Good sounding and often interesting radio. Nice AM experience --thanks guys!

I really miss listening to KGO and Ray Taliaferro but I'm too close to the KPDQ transmitter. Taliaferro must be doing something right, he's been on overnights since 1986! Also miss Al "Jazzbo" Collins who was on KGO before.

Radio stations stay on all night? When did that happen?

Chris, it was shortly after Tom Parker was born. Jazzbeau(?) used to hang out at a place called the Purple Grotto, which had the unique distinction of being located in both San Francisco and New York but only when he was residing in each city. Perhaps, Ira Blue has joined him there.

KGO with Dr. Bill Wattenberg is certainly my #1 choice for weekend night listening. However, sometimes I get a little tired of hearing him argue with anti nuclear power "nuts."

I recall listening to KKEY back in early 6os. They were sun up to sundown. I don't remember them signing off with The Star Spangled Banner. Just a recording of Ralph Wygant giving the sign off with a music backround. Warren might use a ''drop'' or two just before sign off. Im taking about KKEY in its early rock 'n roll days. Was it prefered for stations to use The National Anthem at sign-on and at sign-off?

I grew up on the east coast, and remember stations there pretty much always playing the Star Spangled Banner. But I have no idea if that was universal.

Ralph Weagant! I understand that KXL used to sign off with "Night & Day" but that's when Frank Sinatra owned the station.

I will agree with Alfredo about Hendrie. Hope he gets that thing back on track. Other than that, Coast to Coast is great most of the time, except when they get bogged down with topics that are just a little TOO obscure. Ira Blue. Wow. Remember DX'ing as a 12-year old from Seattle!!! Wattenburg is really interesting. Smart, sometimes a little off-base (he de-bunked global warming at first)...but always interesting. Love his "attitude" with stupid callers, too.

I am REALLY going to reach back to my younger days here, folks. Does anyone remember when Holiday Inn sponsored an all-night music show on stations across the country, hosted by a woman who called herself "Dolly Holiday"..? I heard it on KIRO in Seattle. Then a few years later KIRO carried the Herb Jenko show, which I think originated from KSL Salt Lake City. Also an overnight show, it was carried on many stations nationally, and just featured very folksy chat and NO controversial topics at all. I frankly get irritated that Coast to Coast is on SO SO SO many stations nationally, because it would sure be nice to have some variety when I am spinning the dial at night.

"730 CHMJ" Yeah! Let's hear it for Vancouver's AM730! All traffic, all the time.(For the life of me, I don't understand why StarChoice satellite TV service still carries AM 730...it doesn't seem that practical unless somebody is in their car.) "The Pattullo Bridge is down to one lane in each direction from 10PM until morning for safety measures, now the wait at the borders...Peace Arch has a 30 minute wait from the US side, a 10 min wait on the Canada side, 30 min each way at the Truck Crossing...here at the AM730 Traffic Centre its 20 degrees...etc" More than 5 minutes of that makes my brain go numb. My choice when I'm in the Lower Mainland of BC is usually News 1130. I've found out that traffic every 10 minutes is usually enough plus I can hear a sports report every so often. (Go, BC Lions, Go!) At night when I'm at home here in Oregon, I like to listen to CBC Radio One AM690 from Vancouver, 1010 from Calgary(They play programmes from the World Radio Network overnights from 1h00 to 5h00 local time) or CKNW980 on the weekends (they play old time radio programmes overnight) AM radio at night has gotten really bland as of the last 10-15 years due to syndication and consolidation. I used to love listening to XETRA(?) "The Mighty 690" at night (when CBU didn't wipe it out) in the early 80s when I was in Junior High school. Later on in the early 90s, when I worked the night shift, "Mix 1060" out of Calgary was one of my favourites.
