With the U.S. Dollar at its lowest, against the Euro, could this be the fallout? From Fox News:

Dallas-Based Retailer to Accept Pesos
Thursday , July 12, 2007

Dallas-based chain Value Giant announced in a press release Thursday that their retail stores will begin accepting Mexican pesos as payment, according to MyFOXDFW.com.

The Value Giant store at Southwest Center Mall will be hosting a promotional event on Saturday to introduce the new policy.

Value Giant is a regional discount retailer offering groceries, clothes, electronics and general merchandise.

In January, another Dallas-based business, Pizza Patron, created controversy with its announcement that it would accept the Mexican currency.

Pizza Patron has reported increased profits since the decision was made.

This isn't necessarily new, and I'm not surprised FOX is the one reporting.

Many, if not most Canadian businesses near the border will accept U.S. funds, especially if you ask politely. The exchange rate is not quite as good as going to a bank, but you have to figure the businesses deserve a little extra for the trouble.

It's probably a good idea. The Peso might be stronger than the U.S. Dollar at this time. Therefore you're getting "more" for your Pesos, than Dollars.

Gotta love any effort to win by being more customer-friendly!

If your customers have pesos in their pocket, why the heck not take them? You can bump up the peso price on items just a little bit, to account for the cost of then having to convert them into $$'s at the bank.

If you were close to the Canadian border, wouldn't you find a way to take Canadian money, too?

Exactly "Sutton" nothing to read into it other than the fact that your customer base may have pesos might as well get 'em to spend them too!
