While I've never been a huge Country music fan, I think its odd that portland has 2 country music stations, and they are always in the top 10.
Between KUPL and the Wolf, what station do you think is a better sounding station, and Why??

It's been said before, and I have to agree, MIke Chase, is one of the funniest guys on morning radio. I also think the Wolf's night guy Aj Mguire sounds really good on air.
As far as KUPL goes, nothing really stands out to me, as far as talent. While the jocks are not bad, they all seem pretty average.
I cant really get into the Kupl morning show, and the other day parts are fine, but nothing special.

Cant stand the Wolf, I mean how long can you actually be the "new 99.5"

I also do not think the Wolfs morning show is funny at all.

OK, I may get shot down BIG time for this, but where is it written that every morning show has to be a giggle fest? Where is it written that there has to be 2 or more people in the studio, talking over each other? Why can’t a morning show be good ‘ol fashioned radio, with music, time, temp, news on the hour and, if the jock has something funny to say, say it, and get back to the music? I’d say that would be a refreshing morning show.

I think a morning show should be entertaining and funny!

T,T, MUSIC, Information, and content relivent to what's happening today. If it happens to be funny, great, but just to say Booger to get a laugh, or make a phone call to embarrass someone is not great radio. I think we're moving away from the "shock" jock mentality and back to a more entertaining way of presenting all elements of a good radio show! (I KNEW I'd get slammed! ;)

The WOLF is the better station, IMHO. I like the people, the music sets are decent (and I'm being kind 'cuz I'm not really a country fan), spots are nicely placed, use of elements is solid where branding is concerned, but not over done.

The talk is generally not noisy and often interesting in that casual talk kind of way. IMHO, the morning show has good chemistry.

And they get to be new until somebody innovates enough to make them look old. Nature of the beast

Mike Chase is a Genius! I have been listening to him since High School, when he did afternoons on Z100, than Mornings on NRK, which were the best. If I remember, after Stephanie Steel left the S&M show on NRK, Daria joined. Mike Chase and Daria on NRK. MAN I wish I could hear some old recordings off that show. I remember laughing my ass off listening to those two ON NRK back in the day. Gosh I miss those days, Morning Radio used to sound so good!!!!!

OK...flash back folks. Mike Chase started in high school and started in his career at KRVM in Eugene. Just try to think how many "Good" radio people started at this tiny FM in Eugene.

When is the last time a thread moved from Politics to Radio?

I prefer 99.5 to KUPL. To my ears, it just sounds better. Deeper solid lows. Also, even though they may play the same tunes, I like the mix better on 99.5.

I usually don't listen in the morning so I can't comment on morning shows on music stations. I want news and information in the morning.

Few things make me turn the dial faster than too-many chuckleheads on the air at once, all fake haw-haw-hawing, trying to make their program sound funnier than it is.

your description of a "sripped down" morning show sounds like the K-Hits morning show. And, I think you're right. It's the only thing I listen to in the morning.

I love Khits and I think The guy in the morning is a great talent, but its programed very poorly. It sounds like Liner Card Radio to me, and I refuse to listen to Liner card Radio.
