This from MSN Music News: The big story is the return of Smashing Pumpkins. Two years ago, front man Billy Corgan thrilled fans by running ads in Windy City newspapers announcing his intention to revive the seminal alt-rock ensemble. He makes good on his word with "Zeitgeist," a painstakingly crafted disc that reunites him with drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. Produced with assistance from Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, the Cars, Foreigner) and Terry Date (Pantera, Rob Zombie), the 12-song set favors the Pumpkins' more extroverted side, emphasizing electric guitars over orchestral swells. The lead track, the explosive "Doomsday Clock," already popped up in the soundtrack to "Transformers" -- one of last week's featured titles -- while the first single, "Tarantula," is burning up modern rock charts. And don't miss the chance to see the band live. In addition to extended residencies in Asheville, N.C., and San Francisco -- including 11 sold-out dates at the Fillmore, starting July 15 -- Smashing Pumpkins will embark on their first full-scale North American tour since 2000 this fall.
