I found a link to this on one of the local radio station's websites...

For me personally it was "Reunited" by Peaches & Herb...we now get to listen to it over and over again on those stupid lost pet microchip implant commercials

I believe he was from Dallas OR. I never heard anyone sing "Cry" with him. I'll have to check on the specific week of my birth but "The Song From Moulin Rouge" was the big hit that year. And the winner is..."Vaya Con Dios" by Les Paul & Mary Ford. Les Paul invented electronic amplification. Imagine Rock music without it!

Want Ads by the Honey Cone was #1 on my b-day as well.(June 1971) The only thing I know about this song is that it was on a copy of "The Best of Buddah Records" that I had in my LP collection.

Another great link (although it is Canadian and centralized to Toronto) is 1050 CHUM's link to every weekly CHUM Chart from 1959 to 1986.(The #1 song for the week on that chart for June '71 is Murray Head's "Superstar"-"Want Ads" was #3 behind The Rolling Stone's "Brown Sugar" at #2)

Now who the heck was Gogi Grant?

(In 1955 she signed with a small record company, Era Records, and had her first top ten hit with "Suddenly There's a Valley." The next year, she had an even bigger hit (reaching Billboard magazine's number one spot) with "The Wayward Wind" and she was voted most popular female vocalist by Billboard magazine.

In 1957 she supplied the vocals for Ann Blyth in the movie portrayal of Helen Morgan's life. The soundtrack occasioned her return to RCA (the soundtrack album climbed to #25 in the Billboard album chart), where she also had a minor hit the following year with "Strange Are the Ways of Love".

Although she made albums and appeared on television into the 1960s, her popularity declined and she retired from singing in 1967, nevertheless an album of hers was released in England some twenty years later.

Miss Grant is still performing, currently she headlined with The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies in Palm Springs, California. Her last show was on December 31, 2006 with the Follies, and she continues to perform well into her 80s.)

My sympathies to any who get Debby Boone and Light up my Life as their birth song

BTW, I'll go two Gogi's, a Doris, and a Jaye P. Morgan for an album that I once owned, and now can't think of the name. Had some never were and almost hits of Surf stuff... Some of the cuts I remember were

Draggin Wagon....
Beach Party.....Annette
New York's A Lonely Town...

I think the Honeys were on there as well as other forgetable stuff

along the same lines, I do have an album of Chubby checker, Bobby Rydell, Orlons and more doing surf songs... The jacket was destroyed in a flood, but the record plays. Some of the stuff is GOD AWFUL, other cuts not bad..........

Angie...Ah, Wonderland By Night. Yes, I did get tons of requests for it...from my Mom. That song was the first trumpet solo I ever played for a large audience. So when I was in my room learning new music, honking and tooting like a barnyard full of methane producers, she'd holler "Please open your door and play Wonderland By Night. And when you've finished, close the door...tight!" I was in the fifth grade at the time. BTW, having no sheet music or the Kaemphert recording, I learned it by ear from Louis Prima's rendition.

Roger...how about Dr. Hook and The Pharaohs? Jim Morrison and The Four Seasons? Englebert Humperdinck and The Miracles? Diana Ross and The Mysterians was hilarious!

Les Paul invented overdubbing, and is/was quite the technical wizard. One of the very first records he did for overdubbing was called "Lover" and it featured 8 guitar parts. He's a real pioneer of both guitar technology and recording technology.

And, he's 92 and he still plays two shows every Monday night at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City. I was fortunate enough to see him live on December 23, 2002....he has a great band, and they all put on a great show. And, I got to meet and interview him. He's got some great stories, that's for sure.

Our friends at Wikipedia credit Les Paul with the first commecially released overdubbed track created with magnetic tape, but cite examples of previous overdubbed releases done with more primitive technology.

...

Good day.

I swear, that man might be true to his wife, but nobody knocks up a pause like Paul Harvey.

It's on an old Colgate Comedy Hour with Jerry Lewis lipsyncing. I actually thought it was Caruso.

That was Jerry's schtick before he hooked up with Dino.... making funny faces while lipsyncing
stuffy opera type recordings.. you know, the french love him. I however enjoy how the Jerry Lewis character is treated in Animaniacs....

I prefer to use the Billboard R&B Charts, from Joel Whitburn's book, which goes back to 1942. So, for me, that makes it "Lawdy MIss Clawdy" by Lloyd Price and his Orchestra.

And, for Bossboy, "Duke of Earl" was the #1 song on CFUN Vancouver on the first day I tuned into Top 40 Radio, right during the early part of the C-FUNtastic 50 countdown. Dave McCormick broke the hits early, so this would be a month or more before you were born....

My mother's is "When The Midnight Choo Choo Leaves For Alabam" by Arthur Collins and Byron Harlan from 1913. I noticed the same guys' names several times on different pages and decided to investigate. Apparently, they were a comic duo that were popular from roughly 1903-26. Unfortunately, several of their songs had titles that were so racist, I can't bring myself to mention them aloud or even in print! It's hard to believe there was a time when such a thing was not only tolerated but actually sold records! PS: The spellchecker checked one "Choo" but not the other.

"Poor Side of Town" by John Rivers.

Never heard of him nor the song. Probably... before my time.

Oddly I recognize almost every other song from the other years on my birthday, even going back to the 40's.
