Im rather curious what artists High Schoolers are listening to these days. Is Rap and hip hop on the decline in favor of classic Rock???
My neighbor came over who is a ninth Grader and attends Wilson High School. I was looking through his Ipod and found a variety of different artists in his IPOD. Some of the stuff I found was
Lots of Jimmi Hendrix
Led Zeppelin
Nirvana
Johnny Cash
I also found some Hip Hop like Outkast. I was surprised not to fina a lot of new music in his Ipod. Granted there was some new stuff like the New Linkin Parkk album, but overall it was mostly older music.
Do you have a teenage son or daughter in High school? How about a niece or nephew in High School? Find out what they are listening to and lets make a list of what bands they are into.
Id be curious to know what music they are into.
And of course, if they are actually listening to the Radio, what stations are they listening to?
Lets make sure this list consists of artists and stations that THEY are listening to, NOT YOU!!!! Sneak into their room one day, when they are not home and EXPOSE their playlists on PDX RADIO!

My 17 year old daughters Ipod has good stuff! Im actually looking in it right now.
Audioslave
Coldplay
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Lots of 80's stuff- Bon Jovi, GNR ect.
"party like a rockstar" - must be a rap song!
Linkin Park
Poison
Janis "bobby Mcgee

this is actually a great topic beano. Im also curious what other kids are listening to these days.

You want to look at a horrifying playlist? My X wife has the worst taste in music. My kids and I would Plug are ears everytime she would turn on a CD in the house.
Lately shes been listening to the nausiating songs from Celine Dion- GAG ME WITH A SPOON!! The other day she was listening to John Tesh "live at Redrocks". Good God, No Wonder i divorced her. Her music tastes are enough reason to leave her.

My 14 year old daughter doesn't own an iPod ( none of us do). She doesn't care for (or doesn't know) most of today's music and what music she does listen too is stuff I've recorded. I chaperoned her 8th grade promotion party and even though she danced a little and hung out with her friends she told me later she didn't know any of the music and really didn't care too.

My 11yr old son goes to sleep every night with a CD of original instrumental music I recorded.

We never have the radio on and we watch very little TV. The only time my kids get exposed to today's music is through their friends but it has never moved them to go out an purchase any of it. (thankfully)

I am really hoping the 25 gets her own place soon, again.

Nwokie- I was a kid that lived at home off and on after college. Took some time to get my feet planted. Once I left....I was gone for good.

She has special circumstances, she was injured (non combat) while in the army, so we are helping her get readjusted. My 21 is disabled, so she will probably always live with us.

I admire and totally respect parents with special needs children. It's a tremendous outpouring of love and support you put forth to raise any child, or at least that's what children deserve, but add to that any physical or mental disability and parenting takes an even greater role. God bless your efforts Nwokie.

Parenting never stops even when our kids get older. Nice of you to be there for all your kids Nwokie.

We may differ on many things but I salute your efforts as a parent.

My 19 year old listens to a lot of the new crap "rock" out there, but also loves a lot of the same stuff I do (I took him to his first concert, Rush of course, a couple of years back and he has been hooked ever since!)

When I was in Pre-K, (figure about 4 or so) I new the names, first and last, of the Beatles including Pete Best. I even then knew who Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are.

I am 23 now.

(Betcha can tell what kind of stuff I have loaded in my CD player can't you?)

You'd be surprised DT, two of my three kids have picked up something from my listening selection ... and like it a LOT. My oldest likes a lot of the more classic rock stuff, my youngest ... well he's nine and a metalhead. He goes from techno to Megadeth, go figure!

My youngest really enjoys great rock. Also enjoys great rap.

I think this is a positive thing the Internet has brought us. Any of us can ask for nearly any music. (yeah, so it's not all legal and perfect yet --that will just take time.)

So, we can find music in common. This is very cool.
