I noticed that the hardest working man on radio is on vacation this week. He takes quite a few weeks off each year. Made me wonder how much time the rest of us hard workers get each year. I get two weeks.

Nope, I work for a privatly held company, when i worked for the Govt, non military I got 26 days vacation, 10 days sick, and up to 30 days to perform military service, if I could arrange to be called back to duty, its normally for reservists/guardsmen, bot sometimes retires can get called up for conferences or other type meetings.

I'm with both Justin and Chris! Self-Employed at home full-time with Baby M. but no paycheck! The 'benefits' are unbeatable and I still get to take a nap mid-day sometimes and go to the zoo and travel! The only thing suffering is our (previous) standard of living. And it still was a Good trade! (And my federal vacation/leave benefits were awesome...)

I've worked for my company 17 years. 4 weeks, 6 personal days and 7 sick days. I can carry over up to 80 vacation hours to the next year. Personal and Sick days are use 'em or loose 'em.

And my federal vacation/leave benefits were awesome... At the agency I used to work for, you got (right off the bat): 4 hrs. annual leave accrued every 2 wks., up to 240 hrs. can be carried over to the next year; paid/cashed out when you leave Federal employment. 4 hrs. sick leave accrued every 2 wks., no max. carryover or expiration; don't get paid for it when you leave. Being able to use any of it, however, was a completely different story.

I can't believe how many people lump there sick time in with their vacation time. If your sick it's not really a vacation now is it! As a manager I have seen and heard (not all) but quite a few lamo attempts to use sick time in conjunction with vacation time. WRONG DUMB ASS, TRY AGAIN! Sick time is a benefit to support you and your family during a time of illness and brown bottle flue does not count! I personally think that if a person get 10 sick days a year and does not use them they should receive a "Good Health" bonus in the form of 50% pay-out of their sick time! Sick time is just that unless your company lumps sick time into what they call PTO (personal time off) which is more liberal than sick time in that you can take a PTO day because one of your kids is sick or something like that.

My company used to have seperate vacation and Sick. everyone received 5 days sick a year,k and various amounts of vacation, depending on your years of service. At the end of the year, you got 50% pay for each unused sick day, and if you wanted full pay for unused vacation. About 3 years ago they changed it, now you get full pay for any unused PTO days.

Mrs. M- Best part about working from home is being here when the kids leave for school and being home when they come home from school. Summertime can be challenging, but as the kids have gotten older their independence has gotten stronger. However our house seems to be THE place to hang. I guess when you have a trampoline, chickens and guinea pigs, plus the coolest parents in the neighborhood, it's a natural kid place.

And Newflyer dont forget, the feds include military service in computing years worked, so if you served 4 years in the military, you immediatly get the 6 hrs per pay period, which normally kicks in at 3 years.

I gotta be honest, I don't think Id want to work at home. While the idea does sound nice, I honestly think I would get bored working at home. I would miss the social interation with people. Plus now that I'm single, work is one of the only places to meet chicks.

Justin- Good point about meeting potential dates at work. I met my wife in radio years ago. We got married 3 years after that. Heck my wife and I were flown to New York to be on "Live with Regis and Kathy Lee" about couples who met at work. I may be a little older than you Justin so my social needs are different since I am married, have two kids. Sounds like "going" to work for you is where you need to be. I NEVER get bored working from home. My musical play toys are all around me so during down times I can get some real creative work done.

Yeah Chris, Im guessing a lot of people who are in radio meet their spouse at the radio station. With me, I get Cabin fever easily, infact If I was given the choice to retire right now and never work, I would probably say no. I actually enjoy my job, and most of the people I work with. And Darktemper- I hope that weight watchers class allows you to eat Bugerville at least once a month. I had a peperbaccon tillimok cheeseburger basket with the TASTY WALLA WALLA Onion rings and DAMN WAS IT GOOD! Remember the Onion rings at Burgerville are only here for a few months!
