OK . . . I've read a few threads on here covering the all time greats in Portland radio . . . what about some of the impressive new comers? Anyone see any younger talent with promise in the market?

Why? Do you want to hire them and give them free reign to really do a show?

Here are “ Young” people who I like
( Remember, I’m 56 here! The Term young is reserved for anyone less than 42!)

AJ McGuire, The night guy at 99.5 The Wolf. I like his flow and energy.

Rick Emerson. Yes, I know he’s been around a while. However his show should still be in national syndication. Never a dull moment.

P.K at jammin 95.5 . Call him what you want, but at his age, I ( as most of us were) was eating spam out of a can working part time over nights. He’s worth some $$’s. Keep an eye out for him.

Tim Ryan. I don’t hear him a whole lot anymore, but his bits on AM970 and the times I’ve heard him on KUPL, he seems like a very talented & funny guy. Someone else to keep an eye on.

Sheryl Stewart at 105.1 The Buzz. L.A. talent all the way. What I mean buy that is that she would fit in perfectly in L.A, where you have to look like a super model & have the pipes to work top 40 radio ( it’s not the ole days down there anymore!) .

Stacey Lynn, at Movin 107.5. Another major market talent.

Stacey Lynn, KICKS ass. Hands down one of the best female talents in portland, if not the country.

Other talents I think that should be recognized in portland is.

Aj McGuire- I agree with Eugene Bob- The guy has the right flow of energy, the right sound, great phone bits. Could easily do Top 40 and sound awesome at it. I hate country music, but I must admit I catch myself tuning into Aj's show because he sounds GREAT on the Wolf.

Pk- Yes I have to agree with Bob again, the guy sounds great, Is extremely talented and by the way have you seen The Playhouse on the Public Access channel?? The guy has a million things going at once, he cues the background music, than the voice guy ect. ect. Its interesting to watch someone in action. Very talented guy, regardless if you like the show or not!

Mike Chase- by far the funniest, most entertaining guy on morning radio.

Kristina- AWESOME! It amazes me she does not have a full time gig on Z100! She sounds great, without being annoying) she has the right voice, her talk breaks are always interesting. She could easily work in New York or La. She has the right sound.
Stupid Move on Jammin's part to replace her with that new girl. Kristina sounds great.

And last but not least, I'm really digin Squid on NRK. While he doesn't have the most commercial sounding voice, I always find myself listening to his talk breaks. He's informative and just sounds like a guy you'd strike up a conversation with at the local pub.

While Anyone can get on a mic and talk on the radio, there are only a selected few that really have it down to an art form, and those are some of the talents I think really understand how to communicate over the radio.

I like that Guy Bozick (sp?) on KUFO. One of the best talents kufo has ever had. The guy doesn't try to be funny, he is just straight forward, conversational and sounds great.

One of my pet peeves of jocks (outside of mornings) is jocks that think they are funny, when they are not. If you're cracking up at your own joke, or witty remake, chances are people are laughing AT YOU, not with you. So please don't try to be funny because chances are you're not!!

I've always thought that about Mark and Brian. Sure, they're kind of funny (or maybe they were funny 10 years ago), but I swear more than 50% of that show is laughter by the hosts! It annoys me.

It's hard to tell what they are laughing at sometimes or if they are just laughing to hear themselves laugh!

Love "Elfish" though....Damn Yetties!

I vote for Jeffrey Clarke. The kid's got a future in this business we call "Show". A warmth and wit in his delivery as well as a sense of smirk.
Wait a minute......what year is this?
Really?
Never mind.

You aren't so bad yourself, big boy. But, Charlie, just like the Stones sang, baby, we're out of time. We have met the old farts and we are them.

At least I made the big time at last. And I still eat Spam. It's not so bad if you burn it and slather it in Dijon mustard.

Welcome, new faces and voices.

A few nights ago, I was scanning the dial, and I happened to stop on one of the Christian music segments of KKPZ's Spanish programming. The DJ was Pablo Magaz, whom I hadn't heard before. This guy was pretty amazing! The overall "vibe" of the program was something one would have expected out of 1960s AM Top-40 radio, minus the jingles. By the way, no voice tracking was involved!!
