KHITs is bring back old Kasey Kasem shows. When he originally did them, did he just do the audio, and have someone dub in the songs, or did he do the whle show. And was it distributed on tape?

The original AT40's are also played on at least one XM channel.

He voiced over the intros and extros - and the show was assembled. He didn't sit there through the songs. Originally, the show was distributed on vinyl LPs

The old shows are played in my market as well. The quality is remarkable. Most seem to be from around 1977-79. I can't remember if he did this on the original shows, but some of the songs are SEVERELY edited, sometimes down to half their original length. The other thing he did, which I had forgotten about, was give you tons of trivial stats on chart positions, length on the charts, etc. Hardly anyone does that anymore! "And if I have to do one more (g*d*mn)dog death dedication...."

That is a Really cool idea! K-hits gets bonus points in my book, for continuing to be creative and put out neat ideas. While I never listened to Casey Kasem in the 70's, because I was just a wee lad, I did listen to him in the 80's and early 90's and I must admit, the heavily edited songs did start to annoy me. While not every song was edited, the ones that were, stuck out like a soar thumb. Thats why I liked Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 better because that show does very little music editing. Regardless, the idea of Bringing old Caskey Kasem shows to K-hits is a neat idea. I will be listening!

I heard a rerun of Casey Kasem's AT40 recently on Bend's . . . ummm . . . I forget 104 something? . . . anyway, it was a REALITY CHECK. There were truly crappy tracks back then (as now) especially in the lower 25 to 40 spots. Casey had no choice but to play them. Anyway, that mid 70's recording brought back the time back better than anything Khits could put together. If you don't include warts, you're not getting the real thing. yes, AT40 was recorded on vinyl in the beginning. I remember one particularly bad recording which listeners could also hear part of the sound one groove over creating this, well, lets call it "long distance" echo effect. I also vaguely recalling an lp played out of sync, but can't say for sure . . .
