Saw this toy at Walgreens and couldn't believe they're selling it! I was appalled! Glorifying hunting to kids.

Two hunters with rifles in back of their Jeep, having a good old time with Bambi, half dead roped to the hood. From Gemmy Industries, Coppell Texas. Toy is made in China.

Maybe I've got it all wrong about this toy. Maybe I'm making a Big Deal out of nothing! Maybe I should buy one and give it to Mrs merkin's, Baby Merkin.

I think your being a little critical. I think it was meant for the adult redneck hunter types. Sort of like the Billy Bass singing bass for the avid fisherperson! (PC There cause yes gal's you can be just as much redneck's as us dudes)!

It said on the box for 6 year olds and up. Would you buy one for your kid, or as a gift for a friends kid?

For a kid no. I think that age limit a little young and still believe the target to be a gag gift for adults. It should be placed in the sporting goods isle next to Billy Bass and not in the little kids toy isle! If they market it at kids then that is just wrong!

I read it more like it was intended as a gag for adult hunters. I mean what young kid is gonna want it just because of it singing "Sweet Home Alabama"?

I think it crosses the line in taste. If Bambi was standing near the hunters, that would be different.

Bambi is roped over the hood of the Jeep. To me, that means the hunters have already shot Bambi. The deer isn't dead but wounded and it's singing. What does that teach children? "Wounded deer and animals are funny."

Nope, I wouldn't buy one for my kid, but (living in the good-ol-boy boondocks) there's lots of guys 'round these parts who would.

To be fair, it's not that removed from a statue or a painting of two little kids with fishing poles, carrying a string of trout. It's the same idea, with different tools and a different catch.

True and I've thought about that aspect. However the fish are dead. Bambi is still alive. What are we taught about putting animals out of their misery when they're wounded? The deer is singing so it has to be in no pain. This would teach children, if you wound animals, you can't hurt them.

So....Billy Bass is a live fish mounted to the wall singing with a BIG ASS trebble hook hanging out of it's mouth...that's gotta hurt! He is going to suffocate right?

To me a mounted fish or deer head singing is not the same, as a deer carcass tied across the hood of a Jeep.

True.....I will say that I agree it is an inappropriate toy for a 6 year old child but plenty fine for the 6 year old adult!

And these are the same 6 year old adults you find yelling and screaming while running up and down the aisles of restaurants.

Okay kids, the word of today is ANTHROPOMORPHICATION (an-throw-po-morf-e-KA-shun). It is giving animals human characteristics.

I am not a hunter, so I find this kind of stupid. My sister and brother in law are hard core Central Oregon residents and go hunting often - damn he makes great elk jerky. Anyway, in a hunting culture that six-year-old that might receive a gift such as this probably also has been out on a few hunts and has seen a dead deer in the bed of a pickup truck, or witnessed his dad section out an elk to pack it back to camp. Yes, little Johnny Suburbia might find this a bit unsettling, but I'm betting his parents would too, so he should never receive it as a gift. Six year old Billy Hunter would probably think nothing of it, having likely seen the real thing.

Any exposure at the checkout by a kid susceptable to trauma with this thing will be fleeting and forgotten.

Who says the deer has to be dead anyway. Any of you ever watch the animated movie "Open Season"! It's a copycat of the deer tied to the hood of the hunters truck that did not get shot but hit by the truck and knocked out. The hunter tied him to the hood and drove into town when the deer woke up!

Nuff Said

I'd like a Bambi toy where she ties up 2 hunters and drapes them over the hood of their jeep. then we can get that car driving dog in the news to take the jeep for a spin.

My philosophy on hunting: If you're gonna go hunting, be prepared to be hunted.

I'd rather hear the deer sing "Bucky's got a gun"!

or

"He's got a rack (and he knows how to use 'em)"

Impale!
