For the past 20 years I've wanted to know more about a record I found in a resale/junk store. On the record label it says:

(top) KPOJ 1330, Portland, Oregon.
(left) 1001, Pams Productions.
(right) 45 RPM, 1:30, Rebroadcast only by permission of KPOJ.
(bottom) BALLAD OF PORTLAND, BILL SIMMONS with Orchestra.
(same recording on the flip side).

The Oregonian, Thursday, November 2, 1961 - Behind The Mike with Francis Murphy:

KPOJ's Ballad of Portland will hit the air on Tuesday (11-7-61). For the first two weeks KPOJ will play it hourly at 20 minutes after the hour. The record was recorded by Pams, a jingle production company in Dallas Texas. Gary Capps wrote the lyrics.

I found my record in Redmond. With Gary Capps later owner of KGRL Bend, I wonder if it once belonged to him? Thought it was strange at the time to find a Portland radio station record in Redmond, especially since I'd never seen it in Portland before.

Maybe it was Mark Capps, his son, who parted with it. Not sure where he is now, but after quitting as PD of KMJK FM back in the classic rock days, I'd heard he went on to run a record store in Bend.

Gary Capps WAS Promotions Director at 1330 KPOJ back in the day...

I worked for him at KGRL in '76 and '77...
