I really enjoyed the Pulp Fiction Soundtrack
The waynes World Soundtrack was also good, it was my first exposure to Queen.

What are some other awesome soundtracks, regardless if the movie is good or not.

The First edition of the Soprano's soundtrack, In the Line of Fire, Saturday Night Fever, but I am unsure of the overall soundtrack the best song ever in a movie soundtrack IMHO is Georgio Marado's sp? The Chase from Midnight Express.

That Thing You Do! has some great tunes, but the thing that stops me from buying the soundtrack is that they didn't include the "Spartacus" jazz tune from the studio jam (near the end of the movie). That tune (what little we hear of it) and the Dance With Me tune are my favs.

Most listened to soundtrack - Purple Rain

Personal Favorite - Queen - A Kind of Magic ( Essentially the Highlander ST )

Best? Well, it's relative - but - Singles encapsulates a good era.

I'm surprised no one said the soundtrack to FM or Play Misty For Me. Both are radio movies.

Ooooooooh - FM is a particularly nostalgic album for me. That's a good one. Killer album cover, DOUBLE album no less. That's a stellar pick.

I thought the "Valley Girl" post was a joke until I looked at the contents. There is some killer new wave stuff on that disc!

"Local Hero" featuring Mark Knopfler is a fave.

I second the nomination of Vince Guaraldi's "Charlie Brown Christmas."

We also can't forget "Help," "Hard Day's Night," and "Yellow Submarine."

OK, don't laugh at me, I really am a rocker at heart, but one of my favorites is The Sound of Music. Brings back good memories of seeing it with my Mom and Dad. (a really LONG time ago!)

Two soundtracks were the driving forces behind successful radio formats -- "Sat. Night Fever", which of course gave us Disco, and "The Big Chill"
which in '83 significantly impacted the development of the Oldies based AC format.

I'm going back to the other side of the board now.

Did Saturday Night fever give us Disco, or vice versa?

The "Big Chill" effect on Oldies/AC makes sense. Did the "American Graffiti" soundtrack have a similar effect?

Sat Night Fever debuted in 1977, and the success on mainstream Top 40 radio of music from that movie, along with other mass appeal acts like Alicia Bridges, KCSunshineBand, etc., led 92WKTU in NYC to flip to the all-disco format in July '78, going worst to first in a single book in younger demos.
It lead to a tidal wave of me-too flips to the disco format.
I believe that without that movie, the "format" would have remained very niche -- weekends on CHR or Urban stations in young/urban/gay top 10 metros.

I may be alone here, but the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack has never sounded better IMHO 30 years later! Most of the material sounds remarkably fresh and well-produced.

That's okay. See, I have wonderful memories of Mrs. Sperline, my Second grade teacher at Mirror Lake Elementry School up in Federal Way, WA. I had lots of fun as a 7-year old singing Chim Chim Cher-ee!

Now my third and fourth grade teachers . . . I don't remember their names!

Who will wave at the hobo's on the train cars? And our row of houses (across from the Spreckles Sugar Heiress's stables on Boeckman Rd) that each had about 5 acres for horses were all bought up and torn down to build McMansions. I don't have the heart to drive by and see.
