Can Radio stations stream un-edited music tracks to the internet and not get in trouble with the FCC? I was just wondering since I hear others doing it why would it not be OK for a Radio Station to stream these uncut tracks in their original form to the internet? Couldn't a stations Internet stream be more on the edge and not have to worry about it? Just curious. |

I would think it would be OK with the proper warning posted. I don't expect K103 to rush right out and do it though! Better yet, The Fish, for their listeners who prefer non-family friendly programming. |

As long as you pay the appropriate rights fees, I believe you can play whatever you want. |

I program for www.181.fm , www.202.fm , www.020radio.com , www.0limitsradio.com , www.bigrradio.com and my baby, www.energy981.com . We play whatever we want. 50k+ peak listeners say we must be doing something right. None of our channels play the 'raw' versions of songs. Most of our listeners are at work. Gotta keep it office friendly. |

They *can* stream whatever they want, but it sure would be a bitch to spin two different versions of the same track simultaneously just so you can play some swears on the stream. |

Unless you had two completely seperate programs. I mean after all the internet is worlwide so what good does a local car dealer commercial do for someone in Europe? Wouldn't you want Ebay adds instead of Oregonian adds? I was just thinking that could add another dimension to a station not currently available. A very good point was made earlier that raw tracks would be no good at work so you could limit them for the evening or early morning time periods. Also are local advertisers paying for the interent time or is it a gimme? |

I stream a station and often used the un-edited version just to demonstrate that my station is different than what you'd hear on FM. I don't use tons of unedited, just some. |

"unedited" or not, you're gonna be paying a lot more in royalties than you are paying now after July 15, and it'll be retroactive back to Jan 1st. This should be your primary concern unless you plan to be a pirate. Arrrhh! |

Host it overseas, through a proxy organization, and let the debate continue. |

Internet streams' content is not covered by the FCC. |

The interesting thing about shoutcast is it's interopability with WinAmp. If you combine that with the bolt-on Streamripper then I can see why the record labels are up in arms. I experimented with that and it is so,so easy to use it ain't funny. I erased all the stuff I streamed as I do respect the fact that someone poured their blood, sweat, and tears into this stuff. It all ripped to seperate mp3 files for each song at 128 or better but i'd just as soon buy the stuff legit! |

If you have things to stream and copyright isn't an issue: |
