Give us the title of a song that describes your life over the past 10-15 years.
My life has been pretty hectic so the song that describes my life would be
"Stone cold crazy" by Queen.

whats yours???

Can I please nominate my X wife?
I actually have 2 songs that desbribes her perfectly.

"Gold digger" by Kanye West

"Basketcase" By Green Day

She is a complete psychopath, these songs describe her perfectly.

the last 7 years specifically:

Just Gimme Some Truth -- John Lennnon

excerpts:

Im sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth . . .

No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope . . .

I'll cue up an old-school Rush song here for me:

"I Think I'm Going Bald".

Fitting.

The past was so hectic it was somewhat hazey and a little blurry but if I had to pick one that sums up today:

Pink Floyd
"Coming Back To Life"

Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of life and the seeds of change were planted
Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but irresistible pastime

I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life

I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And I headed straight..into the shining sun

The Division Bell......what a great album! It's quite a shame to never hear anything from it played on the air!

"Time Stand Still" -- Rush.

Man, so many things to experience, and so many experiences that really should be longer. It's just not possible to grasp the world fully, and still be here in the moment.

Since our current President has been in:

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Beach Boys, "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times"

Not to be obtuse, but some women ask for nothing, and because you are smart, you give your heart to them just the same. Of course, bling and ringy-ding-ding has nothing to do with them wanting to spend time with you. Silly as it might seem, they like you and that motivates them to be in your life. It is simple, wonderful and weird, like most of nature.

You know, I know this is a relatively light hearted thread. But it did get me thinking about the difference between songs I like for lyrics vs. songs I like for musicianship. I know it's not some profound difference I have stumbled upon. It's just that the last time I looked at bands I like for lyrics vs. sound, my state was so different. I remember having this conversation in the very early 90's. The bands I listen to now didnt even exist then.

The closest I can come to having a band that I like sonically AND lyrically, equally, is probably Ben Folds Five. They've got a couple songs that nail me on both levels.

Rufus Wainwright is right up there too.

Elton John. Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is one that speaks to me. As does Someone Saved My Life Tonight...in fact, yes. That's mine. Someone Saved My Life Tonight.
