I remember thinking Reagan would never make it back in '80. WRONG! I have the same feelings about Thompson 27 years later. But, my experience of being on this planet just a bit longer, makes me say, "entirely possible!"

Have you ever noticed that every scorching "National Enquirer"-type thread topic is always authored by HerrB? It's like those old "B" Movie ads, or the tents at the fair with 2-headed animals or the world's biggest cow...and then, a total let-down. Nothing of substance, and you want your money back, but it's too late...

Alarming!
Shocking!!
Scandalous!!!

Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

fred thompson is a few notches ahead of our current president, dumbth, in the brainpower dept., so if fred catches on, at least we know we're headed up, even if not by much.

also, fred has a bit more WAR experience than dumbth, having served aboard a submarine (I know, it was just a movie, still, it surpasses dumbth's military experiences.) so i've a hunch if fred invaded a country based on a lie, at least he's more likely to call back the troops when its clear we're not sure what mission we're trying to accomplish.

Did I mention George W Bush is dumb? He's chicken you know. A dumb cluck. why these insults you ask? its because george w bush is taking us for stupid. since he doesn't understand anything but stupidity, I figure I'd go down his level. You're a dumb cluck george. the Mother of all Dumb Clucks.

And damn it dumb cluck, it would seem like you'd be able to at the very least get some oil flowing out of Iraq into the United States, but you can't even get that right. what a dumb cluck.

Oh, off topic . . . ok, fred is a few notches above the dumb cluck so things are looking up for America.

Frankly, I kind of hope he does break out of the pack. If it came down to an Obama vs. Thompson campaign, I'd feel pretty comfortable putting my money on Obama. I just think Thompson is one of those good ole' boys that will say something really dumb sometime, and torpedo his run. At least that's my hope.

If Margaret Thatcher backs him, Mr. Thompson will be the man to beat:

It may be kind of early yet to say for sure, Chickenjuggler.

But Mrs. Thatcher's backing would mean that Mr. Thompson is doing more things right than wrong.

What will you think if she doesn't back him?

Yeah, if a former British prime minister from the 80s backs a US GOP candidate, that means a ton! But let's face it: none of the current GOP candidates has impressed the conservative GOP base. The nomination is really Thompson's for the taking if he can talk a good game. And of course, he's a TV star. That helps a lot.

Now it would be interesting IF (and I mean a BIG "if" because I highly doubt it will happen) if Al Gore winds up running again in 2008 and runs against another man from Tennessee? The guy who took his Senate seat in 1993 after Gore became VP? That would be quite interesting.

I'd bet on Gore on that one as well. What has Thompson done?

Lawyer, lobbyist, actor. 1 Term Senator. Actor again.

Wow.

"What will you think if she doesn't back him?"

Great question.

I think it would mean one of several things, including that either Mr. Thompson is not qualified enough in Lady Thatcher's eyes to be the hands-down contender for the Presidency. In other words, he's not her guy.

OR

Mrs. Thatcher doesn't want to pick sides too early...or, doesn't want to take sides until the American people choose their primary candidates... or she doesn't feel it's her place to recommend a candidate at all, her being a Brit.
