The rumor mill is at it again. I recently heard that Clear Channel has a repeater in Salem that is linked to K103. As of now, it isn't being used for anything (I believe it's at 98.3, I could be wrong about that.) Rumor has it that they will soon be broadcasting Spanish radio from this repeater. So, if this is true, I'm sure folks like Itsvern, will begin stock piling bottled water and mass quantities of spam, as it must be evident that the end of days is upon us... Good night, and Good luck!

Clear Channel has a CP for a translator at 102.7, which may not materialize, due to KYTE having listeners in the Salem area.

1. I thought you couldn't put separate programming on a booster frequency.

2. Isn't 98.3 going to OPB?

3. People in Salem listen to KYTE?

A booster is not a translator. A booster operates on the same frequency as the main signal for the purpose of making the station more listenable in areas where the latter is blocked by terrain or other substance. A booster can use up to 20% of the power of the main signal but its 60dbu contour must be completely encompassed within the 60dbu contour of the main signal. A translator operates on a different frequency and with much lower maximum power. Neither originates programming.

"People in Salem listen to KYTE?"

Newport stations are heard fairly well in certain parts of Salem.

Thanks smoochie for clearing up my programming origination question. I knew a booster was on the same frequency as the main signal.

expert: I've picked up KYTE sometimes in my car.

But having a listenable signal is different than having "listeners."
